Getting set up; Mafia Wars Strategy Part 2

Now, before you undertake this mission, we need to get prepared. I'm assuming that most people reading this guide have played Mafia Wars before. As you probably know by now, there is no way to restart in Mafia Wars. While you can pick up tips from this guide, it'll be much faster if you simply start over (unless you are already level 400+). How? Just make a new facebook account.

Start Over

I know what you are thinking - a new facebook account? That's so much effort!! Not really. Honestly, it's easier to make a new one than it is to continue playing Mafia Wars. Why? Well if you want to be at the top of your game, you'll need 501 people in your Mafia. The problem is the average person does not have 500 real life friends that play Mafia Wars (if you do, please go outside once in awhile). So, the only option is to befriend complete strangers to add to your Mafia. After friending these people to add to your mafia, you have one of two options: remove each facebook friend individually after they join your mafia, which is a complete hassle, or, allow remain facebook friends with complete strangers giving them access to all your personal info, which is just creepy. Another problem with option #1 is you have to remain friends with people to access the "help out on jobs" option.. that is if you have a mafia full of 500 people that you are friends with, your status will constantly be filled with requests to help out on jobs. This gives you some free xp and is used for achievements. If you aren't friends with anyone in your mafia, this will never happen! Also, Mafia Wars spam ruins your status update page, you can't see what your REAL friends are up to on facebook if alls you see are job and item requests.

Getting your Top Mafia

Now that you've got a new facebook account, it's time to set it up. The first thing you need to do is latch on to a few high levels to add to your top mafia:

A good mastermind will add 11% more exp per job, a good Wheelman will make each
job cost 11% less energy

Finding a good mastermind and wheelman are important. The process is many times faster if you have someone who can knock off 11% energy cost per job. A high level buttonman is nice too as it will help you win fights more easily, it is certainly not mandatory. If you don't know of any high level players, just look around on the discussion boards on the Mafia War's fanpage on facebook. 10 mafia members should be enough at the start. High level players will happily join your mafia, because they will get bonuses for being in your top mafia, which leads us to the next part of the setup.

Getting into the Top Mafia

Here is the harder part- you need to be in someone's "Top Mafia Wheelman". This is where the advantage to being the fearless type comes into play- you get a chance to do jobs for zero energy. If you started a new account, simply log onto your normal facebook account and promote your second account to Wheelman. It will also make it much easier if you can have yourself as a "Top Mafia Mastermind" as well. Just ask a friend to stick you up there for a day or two. If you follow through with the guide, it won't be very long till you actually earn your keep in someone's Top Mafia. As of now, Fearless character types are rare, so people are always looking for a good wheelman. Even though I only made my new account a few days ago, people are already friend requesting me asking if they can add me for a wheelman! Here is one of my favorite things to see:

Nice.

If you character is not a top mafia wheelman, while you can still pick up tips from the rest of the guide, you will not be able to run through level 1-200 in a day!

Getting your Energy Up

For now, all stat points should go into energy.
Now I know what you are thinking- if I put all my points into energy then I won't be able to attack and beat the best players! Well, the point dumping in energy is only temporary. Once you hit level 200-210 and master all the jobs up to boss, you can put all your points after that in attack and defense. Once you hit 200 and just energy dump in a job like "Settle a Beef... Permanently", you'll be able to level literally 30 or 40 times in a row. You can then put all those stat points in attack and defense. By the time you hit level 400, which will be a week to a month later (depending if you choose the most energy efficient job or the jobs that give the best items), you'll be a balanced character, only months ahead of the competition! Additionally, having all that energy will allow you to easily gather the best weapons and vehicles like AR-15s and Humvees, which will give you a big edge over your energy-starved opponents!

Additionally, if you started a new account, it is a big advantage if you can send yourself some collections. This is not mandatory, but makes the process easier and faster. When you first started out, you probably considered the early levels the fastest. It is the exact opposite with this strategy, the levels 10-30 are the slowest, so any extra bit of energy helps.

Godfather Points

Every 2 levels or so, you get 1 Godfather reward point. Most people make the mistake of putting those points into energy refills or saving up for the reward items. An energy refill is a huge waste- with this strategy you should be able to level start to finish off of one energy bar. The items are also a waste of points- the loot items like AR-15 are nearly as good as any crate item, and getting enough reward points to outfit your entire mafia in special weapons is an exercise in futility. All of your reward points should be spent on the +4 stat reward, which you will use to increase your energy. Consider this- spending 56 points on 16 stat points and putting them all in attack and using AR-15s as your main weapons will produce much better results than spending 55 points on 3 crates and using the special weapons! Everytime I see someone with special loot items, I imagine my feelings are akin to how Darius Rucker feels everytime he sings "Let Her Cry".

If you weren't able to send yourself any collections because this is your first account, it wouldn't hurt to do a few surveys in order to get enough points to buy 8 or 12 energy. This is not mandatory but certainly wouldn't hurt.

Cliff Notes

1. Make a new account (Fearless)
2. Find a good mastermind and wheelman. Your wheelman should knock off 11% energy off of jobs (this is important later!)
3. Make sure your new character is someone's top mafia wheelman and mastermind. Beg a friend to put you up for a few days, or put promote yourself in a second account.
4. Put all stat points into energy.
5. Spend all reward points on +4 stat points and put them into energy.
6. Try to get ahold of the +energy and +stamina collections.

  7. Is there some easy way to grow your Mafia that I'm missing?

I've only got 50 people in my current Mafia, and there's no point me restarting with a new Facebook if I can't get an expanded, more powerful Mafia.

  18. I don't know why but the bonus I should get from my wheelman and mastermind who give me an 11% bonus seems to be "not working". I never get extra experience or need lower energy. I always need the same ammount of energy for a job and I still get the same amout of experience points for the job. Also button man, bodyguard, safecracker and bagman give me high extra points. Can anyone help me? What am I doing wrong?

  19. Alexander,
If you want to see what your 11% wheelman is doing for you, temporarily demote him. You'll find that ALL of your jobs cost significantly more energy to do then they did before...so much so that you'll RUSH BACK to promote your wheelman again!

I'm an 11% wheelman, and people enjoy the benefits I provide them.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Mgco,
Only the FEARLESS type can be promoted to Wheelman. Other jobs require other types of players. The distinctions help bring some balance to the game.

  28. Are you sure about your comment about the best use of reward points. I don't know if its better to buy 4 xp points with 14 godfather points or use it to level up with 10 godfather points and getting the 5 xp points faster. In one sense leveling up faster seems better to me because for only 10 godfather points I get 5 xp points that much faster. Has anybody any definitive answers on this?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hah, call him out. I was thinking about that the second i read that post. Logically, I would presume that the 10 pts for an energy refill, if used correctly(ie, end of the day, no energy pack available, and about 1/2 way to the next level) But if you use the energy refill solely out of impatience, when you could just wait and hour to level, then it would just be a waste of godfather pts...

  30. just wanted to say thanks and let you know my results. I had been playing MW daily for three weeks and had only reached level 87, skilled capo, $7m hourly income, 130 health, 405 nrg, 30 stamina and the rest split btw def & atk. I had 1 fully upgraded cuban business plus another one half done, 30 each casinos and hotels plus a bunch of other properties and most achievements done. played an hour or two a day.

But, starting over and pretty closely adhering the technique in your leveling guide, dedicating an entire new facebook account to the game, I reached level 150 in four days at master consigliere (underboss and boss jobs all done once and working on skilled), nrg @ 1040, over $30 billion in cash, with one full cuban business and a good enough cuban income to start loading up on cuban inventory and begin completing cuban jobs.

The first two days were spent rounding up my mafia and making sure i had highest level mastermind and wheelman, asking folks for loot, collectibles and getting as many achievements out of the way as possible. so, in effect I got it all done in two and a half days. the slowest were definitely levels 14-25, but never had to wait longer than 20-30 minutes for my stamina to refill, attack my whipping boy a bunch of times, and get going again. now the problem is really just getting enough loot to finish the last new york levels and watching the nrg/level ratio. note: i now use my old MW character to rob electronics and gift my new character the loot.

i have a few tips for those who want to accomplish all achievements asap in order to benefit from the skill boost it provides (i haven't read the whole guide so if you have this elsewhere i'm sorry for the repeat):
    1) do the napoleon one as early as possible. before level 10.
    2) if you are following this guide, you are not well enough defended to maintain property until you're ready to balance your character after level 250. but you can still get the slum lord and cashing out achievements by using the huge amount of cash you have to purchase 50 casinos/30 apartments and then quickly sell them, so you don't have to defend them from heists.
    3) if you have recruited a few players over level 300, appeal to them for help with collectibles and loot needed for jobs. I was able to get enough collectibles to get the collector and curator achievement at level 4. now i give away all my collectible loot to people in my mafia and get tons of UCPs, ITRs and blackmail photos in exchange.
    4) don't buy the fleet of town cars too early, as they can be expensive to maintain if you aren't planning on finishing this in less than two days. wait until after you pocket your first billion and take it back out of the bank.

    that's it and thanks again!

p.s. looking for a high level fearless wheelman? I will be at 200+ by the end of the day. http://apps.facebook.com/inthemafia/status_invite.php?from=1344695404

  34. Thx for guide. I'm now a 271 Fearless with so much energy it's sick. I started this char less than a week ago. I hit master boss yesterday and will hit 300 tonight easy.

    ReplyDelete
  35. this is well and good if you want a cream puff character. Remember, the name is "Mafia Wars" not energy whores. You will be worked all over the board with a character like this. Secondly, 14 GF pts for 4 skill points is a joke. You get five every time you level. Why waste 4 when you can use 10 to level and get one more while sparing 4 GF points? If you are following this I sincerely hope you are creating a farming account. At which point you should choose Maniac for the faster energy regeneration.

A better strategy is to build a character that has 300 energy per 100 levels and 150 stamina per 300 levels. Doing this allows you to level twice a day with an energy pack and 10 gf points for a refill on your energy (mind you this comes into play once you've played for awhile). At this clip you will build a strong character that won't be a whipping boy. All this blog is doing is creating more energy whores for me to smack around while I build my fights won/loss ratio.

It's ALSO obvious that those who FOLLOW the plan - GET the rewards.
    (It's almost Biblical.)

  41. Thanks for your tips. I created another account on facebook a couple of days ago, am now on level 20. But i can't find, or dare to ask people to promote me to mastermind. On my other account i promoted little me to wheelman.

  42. I've got a quick question.

Does being a wheelman or mastermind for MORE than one person give more benefit? Or is the same whether or not you are wheelman for one or a hundred folks.

For example: If 2 people have me as wheelman, does that mean I double my chances at getting a free job?

  44. Here's my two cents on the spending of GF points. You can spend 10 points to refill your energy and collect +5 skill points, or 14 to collect +4 skill points. Sounds simple, but those 5 skill points are already coming to you when you level up, you just get them faster. Spending GF on skill points gets you 4 points EXTRA that you wouldn't ordinarily get.

On top of that, an energy refill gets you what? 400 energy? Maybe 500? Those 4 skill points get you 4 extra energy per level, plus 5 extra energy for every energy pack you use, and those add up much faster than you'd think. Two weeks and 200 levels later, that's over 1000 energy gained.

  54. Yes you can promote yourself to a Wheelman but that is a cheat...which everybody will find out as soon as somebody declares war on you...the benefit of the cheat is not only that you have yourself as a wheelman but that you can not loose a war...everybody who tries to attack you in the war will get a message that says that they can't attack you. Which will probably result in you getting kicked out of your family as soon as the word spreads.

  55. I made 11 mafia war accounts and have them all attacking my level 335 mafia war account with the grease monkey autoplayer for fire fox(11 firefox accounts all running on one computer),there stamina is over 100 and i'm dumping all points they get from jobs into there stamina now, I use cash from casino to refill there 100 points of health, I would like to get the health to 300, 300 is good enough for the 45 second clock to run down and then buy more health. The level 335 account being attacked always wins and gets 1 to 6 xp. In return I have the level 335 account attack them back and he gets another 1 to 6xp. I'm leveling up every 4 hour with a maniac and only have to check it once a week. I dump most of the points back to stamina on the level 335 account and in a few more months it should start leveling up every hour or less. I have been doing this for 2 weeks now and I have 35000 fights won.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hey, I noticed your comment on not buying energy refills. Actually, if you played your cards right whilst using the energy fills, it gives +5 stat, and also note the +1 stat it adds to every job you master if you strive to master every job. The +4 stat is more expensive to buy, so if you'd want to get out more from your leveling while mastering those jobs, buying energy refills would actually be good if you decided to do the energy efficent jobs, not only that, but you also get more stat each time you level up.

    ReplyDelete
  68. You are going to get the 5+ skill points each time you level up. It can just take long if you don't blow the reward points on an energy refill. If you've followed this guide and figured some things out yourself, you really barely even need to use an energy pack, much less and energy refill.

I started a new account less than two months ago and I've already finished everything. I'm over level 1500 without any cheating or spending any money.

What I realized today is a way to add energy or stamina or whatever you like cheaper than using the marketplace. Daily, of course you can buy a weapon or car in the depot or chop shop that gives you six of whatever you want. Then you can choose to spend twelve reward points and do it again. That's six for twelve instead of fourteen for four.
