Robbing Banks; Mafia Wars Strategy Part 4

So, by about level 7-8, energy is starting to get stretched pretty thin. Thankfully, there's pretty much the perfect job available in the second tier - Associate. Try not to rely on this to master the the first two tiers. Once you get to the Soldier tier, this is when this strategy particularly shines. If you rely on it too early, you will end up behind in the long run.

If you have a -11% energy cost Wheelman, and Mastermind, this job gives 2 exp per energy point. If you have a private island (master underboss) you will get 2.125 exp per energy point. This is the most efficient job available in the game, and you unlock it at a very low level. Here is the trick to mastering all the jobs while never needing to recover energy:

1. Dump all your stamina into your "whipping boy" as soon as you level.
2. Figure out how much XP you need until your next level and how much energy you currently have (you can see EXP to next level in the "Profile" section).
3. Now, this may sound confusing at first, but here is how it works. Let's say you need 100 exp to next level and you have 75 total energy. If you do the "Bank Heist" job two times, you'll be at 59 total energy and 68 xp until next level. You can then use your remaining 58 energy to master off inefficient jobs, such as the Destroy a Mob Hideout.
3. Try to edge up close to the next level, then do the most expensive job you can afford to do before going to the next level. Once you level, any energy you leave behind is wasted, but any extra xp you earn carries into the next level. Always try to go into the next level with a head start, that way you will spend less energy doing the "Bank Heist" job before moving on to master the less efficient jobs. Here is an example:
Just 5 experience points to next level, but 76 energy left

Already 132 exp into the next level with a full energy and stamina bar

Due to some confusion, if you plan on trying this out, please read the following paragraph:

Levels 8 - 20 can be pretty slow - do not get discouraged, and do not do the Bank Heist job over and over! These will be the slowest levels that you will have following this guide. I can not emphasize this enough. Try to use the Bank Heist job as needed, if you do this too much, you'll end up behind in the long run - you need to master as many jobs as you can in order to get extra stat points for more energy. I recommend only using it twice per level, as necessary. Try not to use it before level 15. Read the comments section below for more details.

It will pick up rapidly as you master the easy jobs and get more energy. Do not dump points into Bank Heist without attempting to master other jobs. You will need the +energy you get from mastering all the jobs in order to progress. Be careful not to be frivolous with your energy spending - each time you level, the energy to exp ratio gets larger. That is, when you first start the game, for every 1 energy you have, you'll need 1 exp to level. By level 200, even if you are putting every stat point in energy along the way, it's close to 2 exp per 1 total energy. So, it is important to be efficient with your leveling along the way and master as many jobs as you can per level, but make sure you are able to get a level off of each energy bar.

  1. i am level 48, I followed this pretty well except i chose maniac and not fearless. Its getting to the point where i am doing the bank job all the way down to 30 energy (left) and im getting very few jobs complete. What do I do?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Slow down for a bit, make sure you master the first 3 tiers all 3 times. This will give you the stat points you need to level efficiently. By the time you hit enforcer you should no longer need to rely on the bank heist job.

    ReplyDelete
  3. How is it that you get 8:17 for a Bank Heist and the rest of us 10:15?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Because he has both 11% mastermind and 11% wheelman, 11% wheelmans are hard to get apparently :/

    ReplyDelete
  5. I'm not sure if I have been observing my stats correctly but it appears that the exp needed to gain the next level around level 9 is already exceeding 200 for me. At this point I have 64 energy and I have been dumping them into the bank heist job getting a 8:16 (not 17?) using 11% mastermind and wheelman. I'm about 50 exp from leveling and fresh out of energy. Is there anything I should be doing differently? So far I've maxed only the first tier of street thug.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm using 11/11 too and i have 8:16 on the bank heist. He must have more on mastermind...

    ReplyDelete
  7. The 17:8 is from the private island for mastering underboss. The soldier tier can be pretty slow, tough it out and if you really are lacking energy (no collections, aren't someone's top mafia wheelman), don't be afraid to rest for a bit on the first day to master as many tiers as possible. You'll be pretty tight on energy until about level 30-35, so if you are missing the collections and aren't fearless, tough it out for a day and once you finish off soldier it will be smooth sailing until Boss.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Just an addendum to the above.. you need to master as many jobs as possible since you get +1 energy every time you do so. If you always dump into bank heist without mastering the previous jobs, you'll fall short on energy. Only use the bank heist job when you have to - mostly through the soldier tier. If you play your cards right, you should be able to do enforcer/hitman without even touching the bank heist job.

  9. Quick question...Ive used the first collection i dont remember what it was maybe diamond flush and i still have 2 more sets is there any way i can use these?

This character can be used as either a wheelman or mastermind.

I'm not sure if I understand the question. If you have the collections, you use them under the collections tab. If you don't have the collections, gift them, trade for them, or do jobs to get them.

  14. How high do your Mastermind and Wheelman need to be to have them give you 11% bonuses? I play MySpace more than Facebook, but they are almost the same, so please help me! My current Mastermind only gives 6% and my Wheelman gives only 7%.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Here's a thing. Following this guide punctually (more efficient jobs down until the needed ratio) will lead to leaving energy behind! This is because you never know for sure how much of top mafia bonuses you will get. I would say it is much better to do least efficient jobs that guarantee that you can still level off, later on estimate bonuses instead of being absolutely sure. Been using a lot of calc.exe though.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wheelman bonuses are level based, it seems you need to be around level 350 to be a -11% wheelman.

Mastermind bonuses are based on jobs done, it seems you need around 1000 jobs done for each %. Most people are around level 400 by the time they hit 11%.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Due to all the confusion I re-wrote this section a bit. Basically, if you rely on the Bank Heist job too much, you will fall behind due to lack of stat points from not mastering jobs. If you are having trouble with this, don't do the Bank Heist job (aside from mastering it) before completing the first two tiers. It may take you a day to level up this way, but then you'll be smooth sailing all the way up to underboss/boss when you start needing a lot of consumables.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have 11% wheelman and 11% mastermind but the bank heist job takes 8 energy but only gives 16xp points not 17..... Is this a bug or something?

  19. Hi,

I am a lvl 25 Maniac but due to some wrong advise i ended up putting points into atk/def. Right now i am at,

    Attack: 33
    Defense:35
    Health: 116
    Energy: 73
    Stamina:10

I have mastered Street Thug and Associate but only ONE time. I am currently concentrating on doing Hitman or Capo level jobs because of the money and exp. Can you please advise on how to proceed from here?

    ReplyDelete
  20. One more question. If i keep attacking a weak guy i get 0 money and some exp. Is this beneficial?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah. What's money do for you anyway? Can get a chance at item drops too.

To the guy with stats question - suck it up and start mastering street thug and associate. You need the extra stat points from those jobs, putting it off by doing hitman and capo level jobs is just going to make it that much harder to level in the long run.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am the guy with the stats problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did start putting energy into the lower level jobs now and i think it will slow down my leveling but will be good in the long run.

One last problem, should i just choose one job and keep doing it or should i spread it out among the tiers (I am making sure not to waste any energy). Also should i put points into the most expensive job when thats the only one left? For example, if i use 37 of my points in lower tier jobs should i do the job which requires 36 energy?

    ReplyDelete
  23. You can spread among the tiers if that is more efficient. I often hit multiple tiers at the same time in order to be efficient.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why is my Mafia Wars running slow after the first few minutes of playing? any ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  25. probably running a bit slow due to all the people playing with the release of cuba

    ReplyDelete
  26. hey, just asking if there is anything i can do, i keep falling about 80-100 exp short of leveling everytime, due to wasteful skill points early on...

    my stats:

    level 34
    Attack 15
    Defense 2
    health 106
    Energy 225
    stamina 7

anyway i can get back on track? i only have 10% wheelman is tht much difference?

    ReplyDelete
  27. try to do all the easy achievements and master as many jobs as you can to get more stat points to get back on track. try not to waste energy on filler jobs until you catch up. yes, the 1% wheelman does help.

    ReplyDelete
  28. so its worth doing bank hiest for a level just to get back on track? to be fair the poker game is just the same. or should i bite the bullet for a day or two and get soldier all done?

    ReplyDelete
  29. even if you r damn high lvl the most efficient is still bank heist tat i figure out after i reach about lvl 90, so no matter wat juz kip doin tat job. and leveraging of exp into the nxt lvl by boss fight in the enforcer if u hav enough energy left is the ultimate best. as the next lvl only requires u to do as much bank heist job as possible to lvl up no waiting time to refill ur energy.

    ReplyDelete
  30. by the way add me to ur family
i am lvl 99 n i am maniac so dont expect my others 2 be high.my energy is 656. i never ever added anything to att and def,

    ReplyDelete
  31. nah the boss on enforecer is that last one. And if you keep doing bank heist as the guide says you dont master other jobs and it hurts you in the long run. You will become more and more dependent on it as time goes on and that just hurts you in the end

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hey, I'm following this guide right now but I'm very very confused.

I'm level 9 right now and i have 60 energy. I dump my stamina into a whipping boy, I'm a fearless who is a wheelman and a mastermind and i have a 10 wheelman and an 8 mastermind. I'm not sure what to do right now as I seem to be running out of energy with like, 66 exp to go. I do bank heist a few times then master the ones that give 1 exp for 1 energy, what am i doing wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  33. lvl 9 anonymous you're not doing everything optimally. you gotta get all the energy and stamina collections completed, with 11% mastermind and wheelman. as he says multiple times as well, level 8-20 are the slowest, you will have to wait.

my question is, should i even start enforcer or hitman jobs while i am on level 2 mastery of soldier? or should I put it all into soldier and get it over with, cuz its supposed to be the hardest.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You can work on Enforcer and Soldier at the same time if you are comfortable doing so. Once you get Soldier out of the way the whole process becomes a lot easier and more entertaining, so the sooner you can get it finished, the better.

    ReplyDelete
  35. This guy is an 11% wheelman on FaceBook and gives lots of free stuff to his Family... must be so he gets more bonuses.....

    ReplyDelete
  36. i'm having problem , when i am only lvl 10 the energy to exp ratio has gone way over anything that i can possibly achieve and i have followed this guide all the way i dont understand why this is happening. the lvl up ratio is almost 4 to 1.

    ReplyDelete
  37. if you messed up at some point, the ratio gets too high. you will have to wait it out for a day or so and master as many jobs as possible to get more stat points.

    ReplyDelete
  38. what level is needed to be a 11% wheelman?

    ReplyDelete
  39. So I'm fearless, level 11. I have a +11% mastermind and wheelman. I am a top mafia mastermind and a top mafia wheelman.

I am finding that at level 11 I have to get an energy to XP ratio of 2.35 in order to level. I am running out of energy halfway through my bar, even on the most efficient jobs I can find.

My fear is that levels 1-5 my character was mostly idle and leveling up based solely on assists in other peoples fights and such. Thus I was robbed of my ability to gain stat points by mastering jobs for the first five levels.

Am I far enough behind that I should abandon this character and start over?

I only have 77 energy max, and 3 stamina. It's nowhere near enough to level off a single bar.

Am I missing something, or is this normal for the 8-25 range? Will it improve if I beg for a few energy collections?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Now i'm confused

    I'm at level 14
    Attack: 1
    Defense: 1
    Health: 106
    Energy: 111
    Stamina: 3

I mastered all the street thug jobs in level 3
now I'm mastering the Associate jobs, I already mastered all in Level 1, except for the bank heist! but if I didn't master this job I cannot proceed to level 2 in Associate Tier, What Should I do?

Keep doing the bank heist untill I mastered it and proceed to level 2 Associate?

Should I Skip to Soldier tier and leave the Associate undone?

Should I do the bank heist together with some jobe from the Soldier?

    ReplyDelete
  41. How do I get an %11 Mastermind and %11 Wheelman.

What stats do they need to have to give you that high percentage.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I just want to throw a shout out. I have followed this guide and so far I am cruising. I am at level 26 in one hour and have not had any problems. Seems to be working really well! Just a heads up, a calculator, pen, and scrap sheet of paper are very handy to have next to you.

    ReplyDelete
  43. how often do you get an free job if you are a wheelman? does the chance increase with more wheelman positions?

    ReplyDelete
  44. hi, my mastermind is pretty good. 7% safecracker 7 n bagman 5 but my other 2 are rubbish, my mafia is only 20, have you got links to a couple of good players i cud add to my mafia and how do i invite them?

    ReplyDelete
  45. heyy. i got a question. im doing everything thats been said in the guide. but i always seem to fall short wen i try to level off one evergy bar. nd i hardly do the bank hiest job.
my energy is 95. nything i can do make leveling easier?

    ReplyDelete
  46. i have a second question. if i master a job and obtain the 1 skill point, do i lvl up energy straight away or wen i lvl up??
    thanx

    ReplyDelete
  47. if you ask me it wont make a diddly daddly difference, no matter what your gonna get that 1 energy.

    ReplyDelete
  48. How do you check how much wheelman and mastermind % you have?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'd go ahead and add the energy point and spend it if possible. Then when you level up, you get it back, so basically you have an opportunity to use that energy point one extra time. But it depends on math, it might end up not mattering.

I'm level 29 and have followed a mix of advice plus my own guesses, so I'm pretty far out of line with what this guide suggests. However, reading it, I agree with it and wish I'd seen it sooner. I may create a new profile and character just to follow this system and see how it works.

That said, I'm debating how to integrate it into where I already am. I am level 29, mafia of 35, net revenue approx $1.65 million/hour, my best properties are office buildings to discourage robbery, all property protection is paid. Attack 39, defense 35, health 108, energy 93, stamina 23. I've mastered street thug (3x) and have mastered soldier 1x, working now through 2x. Am I hopeless? And how many mafia members can I probably add by using the "add me" message board threads etc? Since this is my "real" facebook account, I'd want to add them and then remove them as friends once they are in my mafia (which I realize has drawbacks). Thanks for the site.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Not really to many drawbacks, you just cant help thim with jobs (which could slow leveling just a tiny bit than would it could be)

    ReplyDelete
  51. wells im only lvl 20 wit mai acc nd its got all the skill points on energy (159). which i find makes it easier to lvl once u pass fully mastering the assosciate tier.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Tried to follow this, went about 5 hours and have only achieved Lvl 13 (not new to MWs either).

    A:1
    D:1
    H:100
    E:101
    S:3

I have a couple of +energy vaulted, a few achievements, etc. I only have a 10% wheelman, which I'm trying to fix but the disparity between energy (@101) and experience needed to level (+200) is still too high. Any advice? I'll keep at it, but I figure it will take weeks to get to 200 at this pace. Which is still better than my Lvl 125 character that has taken about 7 months!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Well I gotta be doing something WRONG? With all the hooting and hollering about how great this is, I got my top 5 ALL 11% and the tow 15% and me in at MM/Wheel man in 2 mobs AND the vaults completed but by lvl 11 I was OUT of energy? I put every point in energy, followed what I thought was step-by-step procedure as you laid out and NOT never needing Energy as you said? What am I doing wrong??

    Lvl 12
    Energy 107
    Health 100
Stam 16 = lotto win added to it not me

  54. Bank Heist Level 3 Mastered

    $4,600 - $7,475
    Experience: +16 8 Energy

WHY is your screen shot show pay 8 E get 17 XP did they change it?

    ReplyDelete
  55. CAN YOU HELP IF POSSIBLE???

I mis-understood how each tier has 8 jobs, and each job you complete give you 1 energy pt and you do each job 3 times = 24 energy pts for the entire tire that you compete.

BIG mistake MY BAD to not complete em in order, on my lvl 125 I am so used to jumping ALL over the place on job…

NOW I know what I did wrong and ASK you, oh great one, (and you are for coming up with this guide), is it TOO LATE to fix my mistake?

Must I begin a new? It was NO EZ chore for me to get 2 ppl to add my lvl 1 to their TOP 5 as MM & wheeman, but I did, and I begged ALL the vaults FULL, and got my top 5 all at 11% and two at 15% so ALL was PERFECT but...STILL I messed up.

I sure hope there is a way to get on track; I am BACK now doing the tiers in order using the BANK HIEST as needed etc…

I am only lvl 15 and would start all over but I have used up the few friends I have to ty this out, the all wanna see me go to lvl 80 in 6 hrs and lvl 200 in two days which can NOT happen now..

Am I screwed and ONLY a do over will fix or???

  56. call me TOB DUBAI

I am level 161 fearless stuck on Capo
Mastermind & wheelman 11% got it.
Trouble with my energy ratio because i miss the point.
"Do not dump points into Bank Heist without attempting to master other jobs. You will need the +energy you get from mastering all the jobs in order to progress. Be careful not to be frivolous with your energy spending - each time you level, the energy to exp ratio gets larger."

What is the best thing i will do?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Quick Question!

When matering jobs (at around lvl 11) is it best to master all three levels of each tier sequentially?

ie: master lvl 1 street thug , then lvl 2 street thug, then lvl 3 street thug, and finally move to the next tier?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Almost forgot, (my comment above). I asked this question, in part, because i don't seem to be making enough money to buy the items necessary to do the jobs... hmmm...

Btw, thanks for taking the time to make this guide and forum possible!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I don't think you should assume that anyone has a private island when trying to go through the associate tier - you say yourself that you won't get that until underboss... you should revise your guide to not mention this 2.125 bonus at this point... seems irrelevant. just my 2 cents...

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hey.. if many people add me as a wheelman does it increase my chances of getting more jobs done for free

    ReplyDelete
  61. Unless there has been a change to the game since this guide was written, than the instructions are not sufficiently clear.
I tried everything this guide says. I have a top mafia as requested, started a new account, and there just isn't enough energy to level up from each bar.
I am Lvl 15 with 109 energy, and even dumping everything all the time into the bank heist won't get you leveling from each energy bar.

    ReplyDelete
  62. hello look at this I'm at level 97 mogul old since it started, I have mastered all the work I started from easy and boss but is very slow and I was wondering if you recommend I follow so user or create a new truth is that I have and 36 days playing and I have a new account fearles I'm taking with your guide but what most interests me is moving forward with the old account here's the information so that you have an idea and I digs that part of the guide I rerforzar to improve it, thank you very much ...

    Attack: 160
    Defense: 150

  63. Note to all -- Mafia Wars has significantly tweaked the game since this guide was written. Useful tips can still be found here, but when I started my account in mid-July, the bank heist was 9 energy to get 16 experience point; that's one more energy and one less xp than when the guide was written, and I've heard the businesses in the game have changed as well in NY, so they are more like the ones in Cuba that give you money every 3 hours and are upgraded.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Is it me or has the bankheist gone down another XP point? I only get 15 xp, while I got 17 XP in the past.

  67. I can also confirm, 14 XP for 8 Energy with 11% Wheelman and Mastermind. Zynga probably adjusted the ratio here.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Bank Heist job was nerfed, read above posts!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hey Guys,

I'm level 50, and the best available job to me currently is "Exterminate a Rival Family" under the Hitman tab, in New York. The exp/eng is 1.82exp/1eng with 11% Hitman and Wheelman.
    Good hunting!

Feel free to add me on FB, on my dedicated MW account.

  70. i've already had 11% mastermind & 10% wheelman and my Bank Heist Job ratio is 9/14, i wonder if i have a 11% wheelman, will it come to 8/16? thanks for the guide!

  72. @anonymous, i have both 11%s and it becomes 8/14, they changed the job recently to give less xp.

@Mafia Wars Guide Isn't the take over a casino job a good filler job? It gives 1.96 xp per energy point with an 11% mastermind and 11% wheelman. I am yet to get the Private Island (At level 241, I'm sorry I suck, but I finished Cuba). Please give me feedback.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Does now become completely pointless now that there isn't a filler job that will give you a good enough ratio to consistantly level up?? I am a mastermind and wheelman on 2 different mafias and i have 11% mastermind and 11% wheelman, but i still only get a 0xp spent or extra xp on the odd occasion. So does this still work? If so...can you advise...cheers, phil

  77. My ratio is 8energy for 14xp points with a 11% mastermind & wheelman, how's that?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I think they changed the exp and energy for Rob a bank... Sad:(

    ReplyDelete
  79. I have seen many tutorials on how to rob people and casinos. I just dont have that option. There is no robbery link on my fight page. Is this something that has to be unlocked?

  80. For the people than need mastermind or wheelman simply go to www.facebook.com/apps type mafia wars then go to the forums or whatever n go to the add me post n well add em

    ReplyDelete
  81. yes, bank heist was nerfed.

No, it doesn't really matter. The strategy has changed to be unfortunately a lot more complex, which is why I created mafia wars compendium.
