New York Businesses; Mafia Wars Strategy Guide

Saw this over on the Mafia Wars forums. Basically, a poster by the name of Syithe said he made a new account and the old New York property tab was replaced by a "Businesses" tab just like Cuba. Here are some screen shots he put up (click to see full size):

From what I understand, there's a new stat called influence, and it allows you to "Shakedown" the businesses. Basically, when you shake down a business, in however many hours it is "ready" in, you will get the payout and some experience points. That is about it. This seems very much in beta, and it seems like there will be a lot more options as you get higher level, so a lot is subject to change.

It is too early to call how exactly this is going to be implemented. I mean, on one hand, it would be really weird if only new players had aspect to this side of the game. On the other hand, these businesses really don't seem to produce a lot of cash compared to the current New York properties and jobs.

What is the alternative for rolling this system out? Are they really going to just get rid of all the old property on a whim and leave the players with billions (or trillions) in NY cash? What would be the point of taking over these new business that offer a measly $13,000 every 4 hours? Now, while I realize New York money has no real value as it is, the idea of regression does not appeal to any player in an MMORPG type game. People hate losing what they feel like they worked for (even if by "worked for" they were playing the game while at work and supposed to be actually doing their job :P).

  1. and are they adding "influence" as some type of new stat you have to upgrade and spend skill points on? seems kind of odd

  2. especially since the just recently added new achievements that depend on having a very lot of NY cash...

    ReplyDelete
  3. Would be bummer if they deleted the properties you already bought... I got like at least 200 of each type...

  4. Speaking of NY money did you notice that jobs no longer have a range of income? When I look I see all jobs with a fixed amount you will earn. NY and Cuba both.

  5. Well said, i started a side account and saw this and I hate it, hope they faze it out

  6. I also don't like the fact they got rid of the range, crime is vary varied (obviously) you don't make exactly the same amount each time. I hope they're not implementing this influence stuff to try make more money. why don't they give their current players who pay for the game better rewards?

Same poster as above :) *Swift*

  7. Pretty mich sucks. I juust started Mafia Wars and I'm pissed I can't get more frequent and plentiful cash and cool properties like everyone else. Makes the game a lot slower. I've only been playing for less than a week, but I feel my enthusiasm fizzling.

  8. i can confirm this. super bad news is you can no longer make money directly from doing jobs!

    ReplyDelete
  9. wait, so you can't make money directly from jobs anymore, only from businesses? lol.

    what about from fights?

    ReplyDelete
  10. These accounts get 6 profile points per level instead of 5, and you need like maximum of 40 influence ever.

Also the jobs do start to give out money once you do something with the new business thing, not sure about this as I tried making 6 new accounts to get one with this system and didn't get it on any of them :(

Anyways with 6 profile points per level you can level infinitely as energy account by spamming virtually any cuban high end loot without worrying about switching jobs to fix your ratio of exp/energy.

  11. you get cash from boss fights, but jobs do not.. neither jobs in cuba or in NY.. so it kinda sucks

    ReplyDelete
  12. i got it with one try... stamina cost 1 point only!one question... how can i get the cash out thing with the new account?

    ReplyDelete
  13. yes u get money from fights

  14. "i got it with one try... stamina cost 1 point only!one question... how can i get the cash out thing with the new account?"
    :O damn,I got 60 stamina points -.-"
well,I think mafia wars is going to crash, how you want to achieve 999 trillion?

  15. This is a great change. Yeah, some of us early folks may get worked over, but the money side of New York is all screwed up. If they can re-set the game so that folks don't easily stockpile billions and billions (to spend on what, exactly?), it actually can bring the game back into more balance. I actually applaud their efforts to step in and try to make the game better for more players. Nobody with 200 of each property is really going to be hurt by these changes.

    ReplyDelete
  16. What is wrong with stockpiling billion and billions? NOTHING especially when 3 or 4 of the newest achievement require that... cant get 999 trillion if u cant make money!

honestly i dont think these new changes are gonna be enjoyed by the mafia wars community and a petition should be sent to zynga not change it (or reverse it)

  18. there is no problem with adding new stuff but completely altering the game from its original state... to something that seems much worse is one worst things that developers can do.

honestly what are they trying to improve?

    ReplyDelete
  19. It ain't broke, so of course they want to fix it... but jeez, now that they're starting to open new cities, with in some ways completely different methods of doing the same thing, they should have left the properties alone and saved this radical new thing for a new city.

  20. It kinda sucks that the mogul character types are the ones that being screwed over with each change. It is bad enough the money is worthless in NY. In cuba you earn money like everyone else and now you will be earning a lot less per hour. I just hope that you don't have to cash-in every 3 hours like you do in Cuba.

  21. well money is usless other than acheivements so it isnt that big of a deal

  23. they changed the name from business to rackets

    ReplyDelete
  24. i just started a new account yesterday to test out the new business. this morning it had been changed to Rackets.

I now have to put skill points in influence to increase it, as before that it was also earned by the business.

The money gained from jobs has been increased back and the money from the rackets have been dived by three.

And you only get 5 skill points again instead of 6 for a new level.

And the number of xp needed for the next level sound way higher than in the old system. They tweek maybe too much.

What I fear are not the money achievments, they only take longer, but their had been an achievment for owning apartments and seeling casinos. No chance to event try that one.

    ReplyDelete
  25. and having money was quit easy with the new rackets. I just helped a friend, who is level 400 and I got 2,800,000 Dollar more than enough to buy all the inventory I need for the first five tiers.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I made a new character and I have to say I don't like the new influence. I started with 3 card monte and your take is ready every 4 hours. I went to sleep and when I woke up and logged in I went to collect my cash..., nope it said my racket was busted. I took too long collecting my take. Also every influence has a mastery percentage, so unless I collect in a timely manner all my rackets will just get busted? At least with businesses I had 24 hrs to grab my take!

    ReplyDelete
  27. successfully collecting takes will gain racket mastery, mastering one level of a racket will open a higher level racket. Second level racket will jump from $7500 in a day to $900k in a day. There are at least three levels to master and increase profits.

    ReplyDelete
  28. wow, so glad i get my money hourly in the old system, no maintenance, jus sit back and watch the money roll in, tried the rackets, and it requires too much time and effort, btw how r u supposed to get the "cashing out" achievement if there's no mega casinos????

    ReplyDelete
  29. I just started Mafia Wars. Looks like I am stuck in the new system. I was like WTF? Why can not I find where to buy some property? I thought I was going cray....

    ReplyDelete
  30. This new racket system SUCKS! How are we EVER going to get all the Awards now?!?! (Slum Lord, cashing out are 2 I can think of)I also see I CANNOT ROB...what the hell, is this not part of the game? I guess us new guys are cut off from about 1/3 of the game from what I am reading...what exactly is the incentive to keep playing!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. 1 thing i wanna add is you can now level up your rackets by collecting rackets (collect the money) for a few times

    ReplyDelete
  32. For the last day - my Bogeda and Bribery Ring in Cuba have not been accruing money or Politico Corruptos. All the other businesses are acting fine. Do you think this is related? There doesn't seem to be a good way to report this...

  33. Just started playing 3 days ago on iPod, 2 days ago on Facebook. What a disappointment the Facebook version is compared to the iPod version. The facebook game with influence and rackets is so tedious and boring by comparison. You could never amass enough wealth to accomplish anything the way the racket system is setup. There needs to be a constant revenue stream, like the properties allow on iPod. What's worse is a new player could never contend or even compare their game with established players. What a total blunder by Zynga.

  34. I started playing around 8 or 9 days ago on facebook. Ive never played mafia wars before and did not know any better about not being able to buy property. after seeing other players profiles i realized they had properties and i couldnt figure out how to buy them.ive been staying on top of my rackets and at first raising $ was really slow, but after completing the first levels of rackets the amounts go up drastically. for example, three card monte earns 3,300 but backroom poker pays 330,000 and then executive game pays 39,000,000- numbers racket starts at 5,200 then illegal sportsbook pays 576,000 i haven't unlocked fixed horserace yet but i can imagine it will pay out around 60-100,000,000. Earning money with rackets is quite easy the only downside is having to collect them in the designated time periods which means you have to constantly check back in and collect. so far i already have accumulated about 500,000,000 but the money seems almost worthless because i have nothing to really spend it on except more open racket slots.

    ReplyDelete
  35. another note-- once you invest influence into a racket, if you collect that racket each time without letting it go bust, you are rewarded with the same amount of influence points you spent on it. so that means if you collect all of your rackets without letting them bust, your influence will just accumulate over time being that you gain 1 per hour and your investment in rackets is not wasted.

    example--
when you invest 38 influence points into an executive game, after 4 hours you receive the 39,000,000 and 38 influence points. plus over the 4 hours it takes to "mature", you gain 4 influence points while you wait. giving you 38 total.

if you have a maximum of 50 influence, and invest all 50- when your rackets are ready to collect you will get the 50 back plus you will have the surplus of the amount you collected per hour. so you can have 60/50 influence if you wait 10 hours and collect on those rackets on time.

  36. Backroom Poker says it pays $330,000 but I have cashed it in twice now and only got $7,500 is this a glitch?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Does anyone know how much cash the crooked housing pays?

    ReplyDelete
  38. They just revamped the racket system and now in addition to cash properties there are properties that pay out with boosts for attack, defense, and energy reductions as well.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have an "old" property based account where I happily spend hours and hours playing. I also have a new Racket-based account. After choosing my racket, I go do something else, return 4 or 8 or 24 (etc.) hours later, click a few times, and I'm finished. It seems to me that if Zynga wanted to keep people playing this game, they've failed miserably.

    ReplyDelete
  40. This is really a bizarre way of doing things in an MMORPG..now there will be two tiers of people, those on the new system and old. Very strange. I started playing just a day or two before the switch..

The thing is this. What the hell use is money? I really don't understand it. I have a few dozen of each building, and other than getting the achievement, what the hell good does another billion do? Or a billion vs. a trillion?

If you can't buy a freakin cell phone, what's the damn point! Where's mafiawars.craigslist.org!?!?!?

They should have saved it for Moscow, instead of just bringing over the boring Cuba business system.

On second thought, rackets are a really dirty trick on Zynga's part. The whole point is to make you check your FB account 20 times a day. Fuck you guys, I have a life and I'm not glued to the computer 24/7.

  41. I HAVE BEEN PALYING FOR A WEEK ..I LOVE THE RACKETS ..AND THE WAY IT IS SET UP ..THE FIXED HORSE RACE PAYS 76,000,000 EVERY DAY...SPORTS BOOK PAYS 864,000 EVERY 8 HOURS AND I HAVE 8 OF THEM..SO 20 MILLION A DAY..AS I SAID I HAVE BEEN PALYING FOR 1 WEEK HAVE 300,000,000 IN THE BANK ALREADY

    ReplyDelete
  42. im level 14 the highest in my crew is 90 i need more rackets what do i do

    ReplyDelete
  43. lol 20 milion a day? How pathetic, I make over 500 million everyday on properties. Rackets are retarded, move them to the next city plz.

    ReplyDelete
  44. if you get the excort service it is a 1 day racket so you only have to log on once a day so when i check all my shit on facebook. They pay 110 million and i have 20 of them... so that 2.2 billion a day.... i don`t know how that compares to properties but i know it`s a pay in the ass getting 20 waitting 1 hour to get 1 influence till you reach 75... 20 times over. Although they came out with attack, defence and energy rackets but i don`t know what all of them do yet.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The racket system was changed back. One of my newest members told me that its back to properties. I don't know what will happen to current racket users, however having a racket does not really "own something" so they might change it back.

  46. Someone was asking about future updates to Mafia Wars. I am actually testing out the next feature after Moscow. I can't reveal it yet, but it's grea! MW just keep getting better and better.

  47. How do you sell properties (to earn the cashing out achievement) on the new updated properties page?
You only seem to be able to upgrade the property level, but not sell or downgrade it. Any ideas?!!!
