I found out how to get your link if you have a custom Facebook URL i.e. facebook.com/yourname.
1. Go to your Mafia Wars home page
2. Click Send Invites
3. Click Need a bigger Mafia
4. A Pop up will be displayed which you can post on your Facebook wall, right click on the blue link that says Mafia Wars and select Properties.
5. Look at the number after status_invite.php?from=XXXXXXXX& this is your Facebook User ID copy this and use the above links to post here or on the Facebook fan page! Have fun!

Did you notice that the remove non-friends from mafia button has disappeared? Mine has. Also with some of the mafia I've added this way (above) I cannot help them on jobs that post to my feed. I get the "They are not your friend" fluff message. So is there a way to know if they are helping me win fights? There have been a few problems on Facebook so I'm hoping that's why I'm having trouble adding mafia 'the old fashion way'... If & when you know anything, please let me know~ Thanks

Not sure about the button disappearing. Yes, you can't help people you add this way on jobs. However, you still get extra exp when you act as a capo on a job and what not, so the more the merrier.

I'll be thoroughly impressed if they can reverse all the people who added mafia members this way. I mean, the link was so widespread, it was in all the add-me threads, I'd wager most of their daily players used it. They simply can't ban everyone who used the link or they would be losing most of their business. Simply removing non-mafia members would screw everyone, since there are a lot of people who play mafia wars on their main facebook account, add new mafia members then remove them from their friends list. Even if you aren't one of those people, assuredly you have some of those people in your Mafia right now. Unless there's some sort of way it can be automated, it seems like a colossal waste of developer time, since adding mafia members doesn't really hurt their bottom line as far as I know.

I don't know of any way to wipe comments on this post rather than deleting them 1 by 1, and that is not going to happen :P. Again, if they banned everyone who used the link, they'd literally be banning every daily player (who are the people who are most likely to spend money in the first place).
They should just stop the game from being a popularity contest, why not make it so you can only fight with 50 mafia members? That's much more realistic, or even 100. They are just trying to add longevity and reasoning to collecting more than a few of the same weapons/armor/vehicles so people will play beyond maxing their own personal character.
As a 25 year software developer, it would be very simple to automate the removal of most of the members added with this exploit. As long as Zynga's database tracks when a member was added, it would be easy to identify bulk adds of non-friends since the exploit was published, then just remove them. It would also be simple to identify users where added as non-friends to multiple accounts over the last week (the folks posting their links in forums such as this).
The folks who used the exploit for only a couple of mafia members, or spread out over time would likely not be affected because, you're right - they'd probably want to limit "false positives". That said - this is Zynga, and recently, I'm wondering if they're really interested in customer satisfaction.
But the folks who used this exploit to go on member adding binges, or to get themselves added to large numbers of other mafias would be relatively easily identified and rectified if Zynga was really interested in doing so.
Me? I have 33 friends as members and 30 Godfather bought hired guns. I don't used the exploits, but I don't have any personal issues with folks who do.

How long have you been playing? They have a long history of doing stupid stuff like this hole. Do you think if they had someone smart enough to do that research and correction, that they would not use that person to do code reviews to prevent more holes?

You get those exp points automaticly, since if I say claim the reward after some days and get like 1k exp it's not added since it's added automaticly after you've helped one out.

Yeah, about the "delete news" link-- I thought it would remove the stuff about "Great News! Moscow! (blah, blah)" And instead I think it removed all my player updates. Not what I wanted. I'm hoping this isn't a permanent condition.
What I do to get my Mafia Wars exp from the News. I go down the list & see there links where there is a link to show someone needs help on a mission, a war, etc. I right click then hit "T" to open in a new tab (I'm using Firefox 3). Repeat until you're at the bottom of the news, 24 back.
