Mafia Wars - New Achievements; Strategy Guide

Tonight, 10 new achievements were added to Mafia Wars along with some other changes. The new achievements are as follows:

Hitman: Earned by collecting a bounty from the hitlist.

Bounty Hunter: Earned by collecting 50 bounties from the hitlist.

Master Collector: Earned by vaulting all of the New York and Cuba collections.

Next!: Earned by mastering all of Cuba.

Dedicated: Earned by logging in and completing a job 20 days in a row.

Set Them up for Later: Earned by losing 10 fights in a row.

Brawler: Earned by winning 100 fights in a row.

It's Good to be the King: Earned by being promoted to at least 10 friends' top mafia.

First Blood: Earned by declaring and winning a war.

Veteran: Earned by participating in 500 wars.

Also, when you complete an achievement now, you can advertise it to your friends:

When your friends click on the banner, they can get some money, experience points (highest reported is +50) and a consumable item.

Nice little addition. The hardest ones seem to be "Set Them up for Later" and "Brawler" - these events would not occur often naturally. However, I think it would be pretty easy to rig it; just have a stronger friend attack you 10 times (set them up for later) or attack a weaker friend 100 times (brawler). Some other updates have been made and I will cover them in the next post.

  1. What is up with the Camouflage Body Armor changing it's stats to:

    18 Attack 34 Defense

Is this just a screwup in my server or what? It just happened about 40 minutes ago. It helped me a lot, since I had not loaded up with 501 Squads or Docs ... and only have 60 Briefcases. 134 Camo BodyArmors bumped my Defense by over 2,000 points instantaneously LOL.

  2. I don't think it's a bug. Kind of an odd choice for an armor buff, but I am fairly certain it is a permanent change. People have been complaining for some time now about the fact that it is much easier to get a high attack score with equipment than it is to get a defensive score.

  3. The defense value on some of the items have been changed--probably to address the discrepancy between the the attack and defense values of items overall.

Red Coat was bumped from 32 Defense to 38 Defense,
Gaff Hook was bumped from 30 Defense to 35 Defense,
Armored State Car was bumped from 38 Defense to 42 Defense.

Those are the changes that I've spotted so far.

  4. posted - thanks for the red coat, missed that one

  5. WOW ... thanks ... I had not done the math and assumed that the change in my Defense was all due to the CamoBodyArmor, which was the only change that I noticed. Good catch on the others!

  6. About the new acheivements. When you click get the special bonus on one of these you get a bunch of money (NY) and a consumeable item (cell phone, wiretap device, etc.) You can only grab 10 per day.

  7. The Set Them Up For Later Achievement is easy if you can find someone bigger and stronger than you. Just attack them 10 times for 10 losses. You get a stat point for that. Brilliant.

  8. also i got 50exp from some bonuses+cash

  9. Yeah, set them up for later was the easiest one for me. I just went down the fight list until I found some I lost to and attacked them 9 more times. Took about 20 seconds to get this one.

Brawler was the next easiest. I just attacked only people with mafia sizes under 250 until I had 100 in a row. After icing/killing everyone weak in one city, go to another and proceed. By the time you get back to the first, the fight lists will have cycled. Took about 10 mintues to get this one.

  10. Veteran I think is the hardest. I always thought wars were kind of a stupid feature, and now I'm forced to participate if I want the achievement. And I'm a sucker for achievements, so this is going to take quite a bit of annoying feed scanning time.

  12. I don't understand how to get Dedicated. Can someone help me?

  13. "Set sum up for later" are the easiest one NOT the hardest one you only have to attack a stronger oponent 10 times, and unless you have 1000 points in attack i dont think i will be that hard.

  14. @anonymous - to get dedicated you do 1 or more jobs 20 days in a row, consecutively.

  15. @anon 10:59 -- even with 1000 attack, there is always someone you can't beat, just a little harder to find them.

i have 1400 attack and while not common, i still sometimes run across people i can't beat every now and then.

  16. Set up for later and Brawler are extremely easy..not hard. To lose 10 fights...just keep attacking the person you lose to 10 times. To win 100...attack non 501 mafias when you are 501

  17. Mastery Collector is by far the hardest, you need to complete the lotto set.

    ReplyDelete
  18. no you don't @ mastery collector - I have it and do not have the lotto collection vaulted

None of them are that hard really - you just have to really go out of your way to do some of them.

  19. I've finished all the NY and Cuba jobs yet I still haven't gotten the "Next" achievement. It says 6/6 too. ):

  20. Set Them Up for Later will NOT work if you have a friend attack you.

It only counts the fights you initiate yourself. You have to find a stronger opponent and attack him 10 times in a row. Quite easy to achieve really. Once you found a strong enough opponent you can keep attacking even if your opponent is killed.

On a related note, Brawler also only calculates fights you've initiated yourself.

Also achievement bonuses sometimes drops money and xp (as opposed to money and an item). I've had this happen to me twice - 50xp and 11xp. So be careful if you're close to leveling up and just waiting for that energy regen.

  21. For the dedicated achievement... Is there a difference between doing a job and completing a job? What if I've mastered every job tier?... I'm sorry if the question is stupid, but english is not my mother language.

  22. Ricardo:
Dedicated achievement just like Dependable achievement, the different is Dedicated required 20 days and Dependable required 7 days only.

  23. Hi I collected all NY and Cuba collections, but didn't get the master collector achievment..do you think I need to collect the Daily chance collection too?? if so that sucks since I've never even found one piece from that collection..someone fill me in pls ;)

    ReplyDelete
  24. if you are having trouble losing 10 fights in a row, then just go to the top mafia page and attack someone at level 5000 or something. i am sure you will lose 10 times in a row, unless you're on that top mafia list.
for the master collector, you need to only vault all the regular NY and Cuba collections; you don't need the lotto (daily chance) collection to get it.

for the that's with a T and nest egg, how much money per hour should i be making from my property? i have 166 million per hour now, and with my current money, i calculated it will take about 200 more days to get with a T, and about 5 years for the nest egg. should i just spend my 250 billion on buying more properties?

    thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Anonymous

For the That's with a T acheivement if the ROI on another property is less than the time to bank $1T you should buy the property. Don't forget you'll actually need $1,111,111,111,112 in hand to bank $1T - having less would be an expensive mistake!

  26. i vaulted everything in cuba and ny and still didnt get master collector achievement... Anyone know why?

  27. Thanks for all these brilliant tips. I want to try the set them up for later achievement.

  28. i've a prob with my street thug and associate job tiers.. i mastered them both long ago.. after MW got updated everything went back to basics.. it show level 3.. but it is not showing.. why?

  29. I am tired of trying to fight the guys in hitlist, but never get the achievement of Hitman. I win the fight but they are not dead.

My Attack and defense are pretty much good. being a level 191 plaer, I can't even take out level 35 player would definitely have a far more less attack and defense than me...

  30. @sabby u need to spam click to take out players u are winning fights since others are also attacking him

  31. (insert stupid name here)November 1, 2009 at 4:49 AM

    kinda long to get "veteran"...

  32. also having problems with the Master Collector
and the Next! achievement. Should have them both but i havent. Any idea? Next achievement says In Progress (6/6).

    ReplyDelete
  33. Does anyone know why Im having trouble with the Bounty Hunter achievment? It shows 7/50. ive completed many more than this. id even win a fight on the hit list and then go back to the achievement and see if it has changed but it didnt. its obviously worked 7 times but its not consistant. what am i doing wrong here? help greatly appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why do I have achievements related to owning property when I can't buy property - I'm stuck with rackets. If your running 2 versions then the achievements should be different.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Master Collector is not coming on my achievements list.. i hav all the collections EXCEPT the lotto coll... do i need that too???

    ReplyDelete
  36. how do you get the slum lord or the cashing out when you can not buy property. i am a fearless and all i can do is shake down properties not buy them.

  37. Utter BS - I just attacked a really high level player on the hitlist 12 times to get the "set them up for later award" - I lost the fight every time, as anticipated, and it didn't give me the award - when i check the achievements in my profile it still lists the progress as 0 out of 10.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am trying to get the Brawler award and have been spending 50 stamina to attack people with less than 501. Almost got to the award. Attacked my last one and lost and the counter went to zero. That really bites

  39. OK, I can't believe it, but I seem to having a hard time getting the Dedicated Achievement. Anyone know what counts for "a day" in Mafia Wars? I've had my count reset back to 0 if I do a job one morning and then wait until the evening of the next day to do another job (I know, I should just play more often!)

  40. What about the Raining Rubles? I don't know if it's just me, but I got a link to the "Raining Rubles" and did it, and it gave me R$40 million along with a note that said, "Moscow jobs pay more!" BUT the odd thing is that, I think I've been paying attention to the game as I play, and I swear that now the Moscow jobs require MORE energy and pay out LESS experience! Has anyone else ever heard of that happening?

  41. Is there any way to gift some of the loot items to someone else? Say, a Tiger Tank or Chariot or something like that?

  42. I've finished all the NY and Cuba, Moscow jobs yet I still haven't gotten the "Next" achievement. It says 6/6
