Mafia Wars Cash Rackets; Strategy Guide

Long overdue, but it took awhile to get all the data for mastering some of the cash rackets. It seems that for new Mafia Wars accounts, some of them only have cash rackets as it is (many went back to having property), so if you do not have access to rackets, don't worry.

If they do open up rackets for everyone, the data will be here and ready when that time comes.

With that said, cash rackets are by far the most developed out of all the racket types (cash, attack, defense, jobs). There are 15 total rackets composed of 5 tiers of 3 rackets a piece.

If you do not know what rackets are, please see the rackets overview post.

Special thanks to Baytor for helping me collect a lot of the racket info and screenshots.

Conclusion

The difference in pay between the 4 hour and 8 hour rackets is negligible - the top 4 hour racket pays 59,000,000 when mastered while the top 8 hour racket pays 114,000,000. After that, the amount you get paid per hour drops off significantly. Compare the Fixed Horserace @ $114,000,000 for 8 hours to the Crooked Suburb @ $368,000,000 every 3 days. The Horserace pays out almost 3 times as much.

Some math:

At 20 rackets total, if you were running 20 Fixed Horserace rackets (with the racket mastered), you would be making $6.84 billion per day. At this rate, if you somehow were able to reset your rackets every 8 hours, it would take about 146 days to make the 1 trillion dollar achievement.

If you were running 20 escort services and collecting them every 22 hours on the dot, you would make $ 3.6 billion per day. At this rate, if you collected every 22 horus, it would take about 278 days to make the 1 trillion dollar achievement.

In the end rackets will simply not be as profitable as property. It is definitely easier to get started with rackets, but on my main account I make about $6.2 billion per day and do not have to collect or start anything - it is automatic.

However, there is definitely a creative way to use rackets to make tons of cash. Since it is so easy to get started in rackets making a lot of money early, if you had a very low level account you could do rackets for cash and then do boss fights over and over again. Since boss fights only cost a few energy if you have a low energy pool, you can do literally a hundred boss fights a day to get tons of cash if you only have a pool of 10 energy.

You could do the $999 trillion achievement in a matter of weeks by doing that. While it's neat in theory, it's not practical.. and then you are left with an account that will struggle leveling up because of all the levels you got from fighting bosses instead of doing jobs.

Bottom line: cash rackets are just not worth it right now. It's a very neat system though and could definitely be salvaged, just at the moment the cost (time, being there to check on the properties, influence stat points) vs. reward are not lined up.

  1. I just finished all the cash rackets on one of my accounts last week. It was pretty anti-climatic. I expected to get some super-payoff or something like that. Big let-down...

  2. hey, if I only have rackets, I won't have property ? so i will never do 2 achiviments..that's bad

  3. I opened a new account and got a different set of cash rackets. Among the differences, the times are off (3 card monte is only a 5 min racket) and there is no mastery.

  4. I've been looking for info on the racket system I have and can't find anything anywhere on the web. I've got the same thing anon@2:53 does. Is this racket system really rare and that's why I can't find any info on it?

I signed up for Mafia Wars on Nov 6. I have rackets, but no influence. My rackets just take cash to initiate. Different rackets (3 Card Monte, Strip Club, etc.) open up as I advance in levels (just like jobs open by level; but there's no mastery of rackets for me). I started with 2 racket slots, and bought up to the maximum (20). Final racket slot cost me $100M, and I probably spent around $400M on slots in total.

Rackets pay 2-3X (depending on the racket) the cash invested. They take varying amounts of time (5 min-2 days) and require varying investment (250-7,000,000) with the higher level rackets generally taking more time and money. Rackets go bust, taking longer to go bust the longer they take to mature. Again, there's no influence for my rackets, if they go bust I'm out the starting investment only.

This guy (http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=141758070333) argues that rackets are being used by Zynga to increase the time that people spend on the game. Some of his responses are complaining about having to check in every 4 hours with rackets. My racket system certainly increases the time spent on the game, but it's way more than 4 hours between actions in the game.

Basically the only racket I use is 3 card Monte. $250 investment, $500 and 1 xp payoff. The 1 xp is what makes the rackets so addicting. With 20 slots, I can gain 20 xp every 5 minutes. I'm not following the levelling advice given here; I've put about 50 points into attack, defense and stamina, but I'm level 119 after 17 days and am working on mastering my 3rd tier of Underboss (I've mastered all lower level jobs). Even if I'm doing nothing but Rob Electronic Stores (the least efficient job I'm doing), I'm only around 300 xp from leveling. More typically, I'm short around 100 xp after I finish of the energy bar. Gaining 20xp/5min with the 3 card monte racket, I'll level again after 25 minutes of running the racket.

This seems to completely change the strategy for playing Mafia Wars. Anybody else have this racket system?

  5. I think the only people who have access to that new racket system are people who are creating new accounts and becoming moguls. My older account with rackets has the 4 part racket system as I have outlined on this page.

With that said, there is definitely nothing game changing from the rackets you described. I don't really see how that would change my approach to the game.. level 119 after 17 days is really, really slow lol, even if you are working on a fighting account.

  6. I created a new account this week and I am a Mogul, but I don't have access to rackets?

    wtf...now I can't get no energy jobs and I can't run rackets.

I think I'm gonna buy an abandoned lot and become a bum, thats a lot easier than trying to get anywhere in this mafia game...

where is the consistency? Zynga sucks...

  7. To: Mafia Wars Guide:

If you really can do rackets every 5 minutes then you can get 2,880 exp per day from the rackets...

    20 rackets X 5 minutes = 20 Exp
    20 exp X 12 = 120 exp per hour
    120 exp X 24 = 2880 exp per day

for an initial investment of less than 100 stat paints this could be a new way to leveling up...

putting stats in energy is good but at least 100 should go into influence to get the free 3000/exp/day while leveling...

This needs more research, because I have never seen the 5 minute racket, but if it exists...

  8. To previous post:
First of all - you got your math all wrong. 20 exp every 5 minutes gives 240 exp per hour and not 120 (as 12 x 20 = 240 not 120). This means we get a total of 5760 a day which is a lot more impressive...

And yes, I agree, 6000 free xp per day sounds quite amazing, but even if this racket exists, it means you have to do it every 5 minutes, everyday and night. And I do not think anyone is THAT much into Mafia Wars to check it every 5 minutes of the week.

  9. I thought the easiest racket(three card monte) would take at least 4 hours? I'm a Maniac.

  10. Well, it's not quite 20 every 5 minutes because you have downtime as you cycle through the rackets. But who has time to sit there and do that?

I still think it wouldn't make for a significant change in gameplay.

First off, consider that a low level account loading up on filler experience points from racket is going to be hard pressed to level up off of each energy bar, because you need to master a lot of jobs in order to do that and filling up on racket XP will mean less jobs mastered each level.

Then, consider that my level 1250 account needs around 15-16k XP to level up - running these rackets wouldn't even be worth my time.

They could be useful for mid-life fighting-based accounts, but for a very low level account - it's a waste of experience points, and for a high-end account, the time investment for the reward is not there.

  11. I have the same "cash only" rackets people describe here. I'm a fearless and I have only rackets but no influence. Maximum cash output is with the "Executive Game" (7m startup, 14m payout - 22h) and "Escort Service" (1.2m startup, 3.2m payout - 5h). A max of 400k per hour. If you use all 20 rackets, you can make at most 192 million a day, and that's if you check every 5 hours for the Escort Service. It's not even worth doing since you can make that much money doing the "Visiting Don" job 4 times and make more money than that.

    It's most irritating.
