Mafia Wars Guide Domain Name Change

Facebook's legal team sent me and e-mail saying that I could not publish my site on a domain which included "Facebook" in the title, since Facebook is a global brand and my site could hurt their image or something along those lines and I needed to change my domain immediately.

So, the new domain is now http://www.the-mafia-wars-guide.com - it is a bit lengthy, but there is practically nothing available at this point as far as mafia wars related domain names go.

The old address should forward you to this page for the next few days but it will be going offline soon, so update your bookmarks.

  1. Wow! I would expect that from Monster Cable, but Facebook too? Talk about a standing army of bored attorneys!

  2. Is the new link supposed to be live yet? Because I'm getting a 404 error when I click the new one.

  3. Yeah, 404 from here in Montana, USA too. It may take 24 to 48 hours to trickle down the DNS.

  5. The new address is not live yet. Was at work when I noticed the e-mail. working on getting some forwarding set up for a few days for a smooth transition.

The problem with switching right away is that all the links in the sidebar immediately broke (since they are all from the mafia-wars-facebook-guide.com domain, so I need to change all those and what not. Should be live by later tonight.

  6. Fyi: if you fight this you would most likly win. There is no legal standing to deny you use of a legal domain name simply because it has facebook in it.

  7. other then the fact that facebook has a gazillion dollars to throw at the fight of it which would put the owner of this site in so much debt he would lose. facebook has already started its decline into pure business. lets just hope google never makes that switch.

  8. Yeah, I'm not really certain they can win, since they're grounds are they're copyright of the name "facebook" which has nothing to do with domains, and anti-squatting laws (i.e. you can't sit on domains that you have no business owning, like a random individual registering disney.net for example).

I don't have the money or the time to deal with it though so I might as well change.

  9. Has anyone ever been playing the game and the ZYNGA Terms of Service screen appears in the play screen. It's never happened on any other account that I have....I was wondering if anyone knew why it happens.
