Mafia Wars Guide - More Moscow Nerfs; Strategy

So, there are a few more changes nerfs to Mafia Wars Moscow that came out today. First of all, if you click this link, you can get a good chunk of rubles for free (based on level).

Also, it is confirmed that all Moscow businesses are unlocked at any level. Combined with the extra 10,000,000+ rubles everyone gets, I believe the thought is that if they can give out free rubles, people can buy the businesses and eventually get around to finishing the Moscow content.

Additionally, jobs pay out around ~15% more. Definitely steps in the right direction, but I still think most players will not be finished by the holidays, so I expect to see another nerf to this content soon.

Thoughts on the "Retuning"

I think the problem right now is that a character's capacity to complete jobs does not really scale. With each passing level, the amount of experience points you need to get to hit the following level increases. Even if you put all your points into energy, you can not keep up with this increase once you reach a certain level. As a result, after you reach a certain level, somewhere around 250-300, your capacity to complete jobs actually goes down.

Compare that with the way content is going. Moscow is significantly harder than both New York and Cuba put together, yet by the time most players reach Moscow, leveling up is not so easy. I think the only real solution here, rather than to nerf Moscow content into the ground, is that our characters in game need some sort of viable energy progression. The private island, helicopter, and golden throne made sense to me. As I completed the final content, my character was able to do more jobs, as it should be.

Fast forward to Moscow. Jobs cost literally 2-3x as much as jobs in previous cities, but now as we level up, it becomes harder and harder to do so again. So the content is getting harder while the capacity to level up (and as a result, do jobs) is getting worse.

This problem will only continue to grow unless the developers produce methods for increasing energy regeneration (like another golden throne / helicopter type item) for mastering jobs.

  1. I agree 100% with your comments. Instead of these single loot rewards at the end of each level, a new set of rewards would be better for progression of high level players.

  2. totally agreed, better more loot rewards on job mastery.

  3. I also noticed that the boss levels on each completed episode are locked again :(

  4. The Nerf money, Is this going to be a one time only or a once a week thing?

Also what do you think of this for Moscow and other city's coming up. Have a radom thing that will spin when you do a job and you can get 2x-say 5x for that job? kinda like a slot game at the casino you get the 3x with 2 bars.

  5. You bring up a good point about energy vs. Moscow completion. I wonder how this will affect their work on Bangkok.

I wish there had been a golden throne-equivalent as a reward for finishing the first episode of Moscow.

  6. yea i would love new york type job mastery items on cuba and moscow, cos now theres no reason why should go trought cuba and colect all those politicos exept few achievments.

  8. A golden throne type of achievement would make sense. I don't know what they were thinking when they designed the game to keep increasing the amount of XP you need to do a job but didn't scale the energy or stamina points you could achieve accordingly.

The golden throne nad the helicopter were worthwhile prizes for achieving the accomplishments in New York. But, Moscow and Cuba pay out a single weapon, armor or vehicle that boosts your attack or defense by a couple of points?

  9. Just a thought, but looking at Moscow and the amount of money it takes, I think mogul is the best character. you get more money for jobs. That way you can work more efficient. I'm a maniac at lvl 875 but completing jobs gets harder and harder. Thank heaven they threw out that bribe system, because at a certain point I received only R$200k from the R$1mil. Problem from Moscow is that there are no jobs that are really efficient.

  10. Personally, I really liked the fact that Moscow was a challenge. Now that rubles are worthless, it's much less so. I disagree with the devaluation of rubles simply because I've invested so much time in Moscow trying to generate cash.

I should add, though, I'm a lvl 714 maniac with 3993 energy. If it wasn't for the cash-poor situation, I would have finished Moscow long ago. As it is, I've been farming gear and cash.

  11. Fantastic link ! I got 50,000,000 rubles ! A great help !

  12. @ two post above: the payout is same for mogul or maniac in moscow!

  13. I think businesses produce faster if you are a mogul, which, with the business buff, is I guess at least an "attempt" to make mogul more viable.

All sort of lame though. You should be able to switch between fearless/maniac/mogul for 10-15 GF points or something like that.

  14. don't forget about lisa

  15. another thing that needs to be revisited in the game is the influence. it's only used in New York, and while it helps gain free rides and truck drivers, 3 and 6 off doesn't amount to much once you reach moscow and jobs are almost always over 100energy use. I hope that influence is used in bangkok instead of the business model used in moscow and cuba and some good rewards can be had. if not, influence is just a worthless stat point.

  16. I think more levelup points could be the best achievement for mastering all the moscow !!!
in example you get 10 level up points after you doone all the moscow !!!

  17. The problem with just doing any simple energy fix - like another golden throne or helicopter - is that it would just make the "Mogul" penalty worse. They really need to fix the balance between Maniac, Fearless, and Mogul. I have a regular level 500 Mogul player and a buddy that started a couple of weeks later as a Maniac has double my energy and is pusling level 800. I'm doing two levels a day - one with energy pack and one the long way with some fighting. He's doing four or five levels a day - and far more jobs.

It's all tied up together. They need to give regular players a way to keep up with the energy gap (5 gf points vs 12.5 energy bump needed per level) - and address the game balance.

  18. The simple fact that cuba jobs were giving 2-1 exp-energy ratio at the top end tiers and russia tops off at more like 1.8-1 tells you that slowing down level-ups was an intentional development decision.

  19. Some good points made here.
I agree that a new "golden throne" type item needs to be added to the end of each city so that no matter what order you do the cities in you have a chance to increase those energy/XP ratios as your character intcreases.

they also do need to help the poor moguls and fearless more too. There is a little help in Moscow for moguls(5% more money payout for businesses) but it needs to be more (why not the 10% like NY?) The maniac just has too big an advantage now.

  20. Nobody took advantage of the Zynga goof friday? Nice boost glitch, allowed indefinite leveling and Moscow master completion.

  21. I am having trouble with polishing off Dmitri. It's the Final Chapter and I had to request help. Did so for about two weeks with plenty of response. The help button turned to a locked button. I can't find anything to do to get beyond this.

  22. I went back and looked at my New York Jobs and in the Enforcer level is says "Level 3 Job Mastery 0%" even though i finished it a long time ago. When I do any of the jobs it doesn't give me mastery points. Anyone else have this happening to them. I thought it was a glitch but it has been that way all day.

  23. so if there's a golden throne for moscow too, that would be 3x energy regeneration? highly unlikely methinks

  24. Yeah...I just hope that Bangkok has New-York
type weapons...Moscow serious sucks! I mean, Barsuk SUV is like so lousy compared to Cocodrilo APC, and you need like tons and tons of energy to complete the jobs!
