Yakuza and Triad Faction Guide

As you work through the episodes in Bangkok, in addition to having to choose sides between the Yakuza and the Triads, you can also earn faction points as you do jobs. This faction can be used to buy several good items and even some businesses:

When you do a job, you can get +3 faction for whatever side you help, and -1 faction for the opposing side:

You can total up to 1500 faction. Once you crest 1400/1500, you achieve "allied" status and can get all of the associated rewards:

Here's the thing - each time you do a job for one faction, you gain +3 and only lose -1 from the previous job. As a result, with some work, you can actually max out both factions.

The best way to go about this is to completely max out 1 faction first, like I did with Yakuza above. That way, when you do jobs for the Yakuza, you aren't actually losing any Triad faction (since it is already at 0). Once Yakuza is maxed out, you can then max out your Triad faction.

The end result of this is that you will have 1000 Yakuza Faction and 1500 Triad Faction. Now, max out your Yakuza faction again and you will end up with 1500 Yakuza and 1333 Triad Faction. Repeat this process a few times and both will be very close to 1500 points, and you will be able to buy whatever faction rewards your heart desires.

Faction Requirements

Hostile: 1-199/1500 faction
Suspicious: 200-399/1500 faction
Neutral: 400-699/1500 faction
Trusted: 700-999/1500 faction
Honored: 1000-1399/1500 faction
Allied: 1400-1500 faction

One catch, though. As you may have noticed (or heard), as you level up through the tiers, your costs for doing jobs goes up. Take a look:

versus:

Same episode, same faction, but the energy costs for jobs in Episode 1 on the 4th (Diamond) mastery are around double the cost of doing the job the first time through. So, what you should ideally do is at least max out one faction (taking it to 1500) by repeating a job like "Intercept an Ammo Shipment" repeatedly on the first level of mastery. Then, later, you can max out Triad faction in episode 2.

While energy costs increase, faction gained does not increase as you rise through the tiers.

Note that "Set Up A Phony Business" is an episode 2 job, but the first time through it still costs less energy than many of the episode 1 jobs at the second time of mastery or later. In other words, if you already missed the opportunity for cheap faction since you finished episode 1, you can always go to episode 2 and get your faction there.

In short, get your faction in early so that you can buy all the cool items and businesses for both sides!

It appears you will be able to help your fraction rating when fighting opens in Bangkok as well. For both sides.

is the loot from faction store can be gifted?

Are you able to gift the items from teh faction store??

I am thinking that in their attempt to get rid of farming energy accounts/multiple account players, that perhaps you can no longer gift Bangkok loot. So far you can't gift any of the weapons that you recieve from the jobs..Now if this is the same for the Faction Store then that would make people truly have to earn their loot..

Cause it appears the Faction Store weapons cost a pretty good amount of money, so even if your an energy account you will be repeating ALOT of jobs to buy up 500 of items from the Faction Store.. And if you cant gift the items that would make Farmers obselete as far as Bangkok loot goes, they could still loot Moscow and Eggs and such...

Looks like now Stamina will be the way to go, and thus you will have to fight for your money. But now in addition to buying items needed for jobs, and cash for bussinesses, looks like fighting/money will not become useless.(atleast not that fast)

But this could really even up the odds for those of us without 50 farming accounts..Especially if they will not offer any sort of Bangkok gifting of high grade weapons..

Course I dont have the cash or exp yet to reach the faction store..

Anyone know?

I don't know, but I assume that the reason you can't gift loot in Bangkok right now is because it is still in beta. As for the Faction Store, my thought is that it would be like any other purhcasable items from the other cities and you can't gift them. I do hope that the loot drops get better in Bangkok though.

I've noticed that the loot drop percentage seems to be incredibly high. This may be because I have just vaulted the daily chance collection, but I am now at diamond mastery and I am looting Attack Cobras 50% of the time.

What's up with the mini energy boost? i can't seem to get it anymore :/

New achievment for gaining access to Bangkok "Sawatdee"

Mafia Wars Guide said...

it appears the new link for energy packs is no longer working - if you use the toolbar though it is once again working.

also, odds are you can't gift items because it is in beta.

You can now gift an "Envelope of Thai Bath" which you can open in Bangkok and contains some money. "Congratulations! You found B$730 in the envelope!"

if they wanted to stop the farming accounts, they will just have to make the he-items purchaseable, and you will not be abeld to gift them.

it is true that energy costs go up but so does the ratio of exp points per energy used..so it weems to me that with energy always the controlling factor in this game there is a cross over point where it will be better to keep increasing chapters relative to faction points and energy/exp..thats too much for my brain to figure

Even when you get a faction to zero you can still access the store? MW says: "Drop below a certain level and that faction may cut off access to items in the store." So, I thought if it gets to zero you won't be able to access the store anymore...

Zach said...

Between 0 and 400 you cant access the store anyways. I think they mean "drop below 400 and you wont be able to access the store anymore..."

BTW, the game says you can ask for help on the jobs in chapter one once every 24 hours. However, I managed to ask twice yesterday, once in the morning, and once at night. Does this mean the timer on the jobs is actually 12 hours? Please help :)

Anonymous said...

Okay. I now understand what they mean. I thought if I get to 0 the store won't be available forever even if I get above 400. Thanks for the clarification!!

Zach said...

Yep, confirmed. The job help timer is 12 hours, not 24 :D

Has anyone else noticed this? The energy I spend does not equal the amount shown for each job. it costs me about 6 or 7% less. For example, on the ammo job it is displayed as 51 energy but when I do the job it really only cost me 47. The XP levels match still.

Anonymous said...

Agree with above...it seems that if you have an 11% bonus, the true energy cost per job is not calculated correctly

Mafia Wars Guide said...

Yeah - I noticed that as well. The jobs are definitely cheaper than they say they are.

I am 1419 / 1500 faction with Triad(Allied) and 403 / 1500 faction with Yakuza(neutral). I have bought 1 of each item from the Triad store but even though I meet the faction to buy the Raion Assault Rifle from the Yakuza store when I try I get the message "This item is not available to your faction." Anyone know what's up with this?

What is better pick Yakuza or the Triads ?
Tnx!

Add me pleas daily player 10-12 hours - Level 450 wanna play YAKUZA in bangkok mafia wars

Anonymous said...

Yakuza OR Triad --->
Probably depends on your playing style. I will eventually max out both. Yakuza gives you better Attacking (I mean you can buy) items, while Triad is better for defense. Based on that, you might know which way you want to go...

I also noticed that while the energy requirement increases at the higher levels, the ratio is better. I am using this to determine that amount of energy I am using to build my allied status.

Items from faction store can be send to mafia family? Anybody have tried?

Anonymous said...

hopefully one can clear this up, so you did "Intercept an Ammo Shipment" in episode 1 chapter 1, level 1 until you got 1500 points with 1 faction and then did mastery level 2 as the opposite faction? or did you do all of episode 1 as one faction, then all of episode 2 as the other faction, sacrificing some of the faction specific loot? trying to find the most optimal path through bangkok. thanks.

Can't gift my Yakuza Assassin.
He doesn't appear on the loot page or in the gift page and only shows up on my profile page way at the beginning just like other paid for inventory loot.

@MWG-Greetings! Have you had time to recalculate the faction guide strategy to account for fighting? Or is that too much of a variable? Fighting ratio is +2/-1 versus the job ration +3/-1. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Irish Nacho:

The math is relatively easy.

It takes 1500 (max faction) / 3 (points earned per mission) = 500 missions to max a faction.

It takes 1500 / 2 (points earned per fight) = 750 fights to max a faction.

Now remember, for every mission/fight you do, you lose one faction from the other side. So, 750 fights = -750 faction from the side that you maxed first, vs. -500 faction if you do all missions.

You could fight your way up to allied/max faction in both teams, but it will take a heck of a lot more fights than it would to do the same feat purely via missions.

I dont't get it, I did a few jobs on yakuza side and now I can't do triad jobs anymore?
How do you do jobs on both sides at the same time??

Anonymous said...

Fighting is the way to go. Maxed out both factions in two days. Keep in mind that the players in Bangkok, especially the tagged ones, are tougher. I have 1000 points in attack and a 64,000+ W/A/V strength so I can generally beat most average players up to level 600.

First of all, why would ANYONE not employed by Zynga WANT to stop the "farming accounts"? to "truly earn the loot"? What do you think they are doing when "farming"? Playing in dirt? What they AREN'T doing is popping in a Game Genei and buying everything from the Godfather to make Zynga more rich,.. which is why Zynga wants to stop the farming. I don't know why other players would want to stop it unless they LIKE paying CASH for their loot.
