Crew Collections; Prototype Carjacking, Theft of a Drone, and Weapons Shipping Hijacking

A new type of collection has been introduced to the game - the Crew Collections.

Here is how it works:

Basically, you can get collection pieces either by 1) asking for help 2) helping out your friends. However, it is not quite that simple.

Helping a Friend

When you offer to help a friend, you get around 1 hour to "find" the piece assigned to you in the mission. The job that you must complete has an orange timer beside it. The drop i rate is unfortunately very rare. As a result, it can take quite a few job completions to get your item, which can be tough within the hour time span.

Once you find the piece your friend is looking for, you will both get a copy of the item. You can help out 5 friends in a 24 hour period.

Additionally, you have to earn at least 1 piece from each collection before you can call for help on it, so you will have to help out friends who have other collections unlocked in order to get access to all the items.

It would seem that the job that you find the item in appears in the city you were last in, so try to accept this job in the street thug tier.

Asking for Help

When you ask for help, in order to get the item needed, you have to get your friends to help you and then actually have them procure the item within the hour! This will not happen often, since only 5 friends total can help you out and the item drop that they are looking for is pretty rare. However, since you can only call for help once every 48 hours (total, not once for each collection), odds are your friends will at least try to help you out in an effort to earn a piece for themselves.

Sets and Rewards

As noted above, it can be quite tough to complete these collections. It's certainly doable if you spend a lot of time playing and chasing down these collections, however, it does not seem to be much worth the effort at the moment:

Reward for the Prototype Carjacking collection: Koenigsberg S10 (vehicle; 30 attack, 46 defense).

Reward for the Theft of a Drone collection: Military Spy Drone (vehicle; 33 attack, 47 defense).

Reward for the Weapons Shipping Hijacking collection: Fox Hunter (weapon; 48 attack, 27 defense).

As it stands, collecting these items does not seem to be worth the effort given that these are not much better than top-tier loot pieces. If you really want to finish the collections and are a high level player, I'm sure it will be quite easy to trade high-end loot pieces for the collection pieces rather than collecting the pieces yourself.

---

Personally, I'm not going to even bother with these collections right now - the items just aren't worth the time spent. I'm sure in a week or two these collection pieces will plummet in value rapidly, and it will be easy to pick up a full collection set for a mere 10-20 high end loot pieces.

  1. FINALLY Zynga implemented a new feature on the skill points upgrade page (Health, energy, attack, defense). You no longer have to click 5 times to put all 5 points where you want, you have the option to click 1 point or click 5 to put all the points into a category at once.

  2. When trying to score items for the crew collections, you can't just do any old job. Instead, MW designates which job you have to perform over and over and over in order to get the item to drop. In theory, anyway. I've tried to help two friends today and ran out of energy before anything dropped. Tricky.

  3. only 1 job is possible, your assigned this job after you click the help on the home page. already got 5 pieces of all 3 collections. all within my enrgy (1800+)

  4. Christ, they have too much time on their hands at Zynga coming up with ever more complicated ways to get us to spam each other every other week. I give up.

  5. I only post my MW requests to my group of gaming friends. If it weren't for Facebook's new post privacy setting, I would've stopped playing MW (again) with the introduction of the chop shop. The more MW spam non-players see on their FB page, the more they are turned off from playing it. Or maybe not and that's the reason why Zynga is keeping this BS up.

  6. I agree. The spam is a big problem. And I think it will get even bigger...

About the crew collection: nice idea, items could be a bit better. I just collected 4 pieces for the collections. On the average it took me about 8 to 12 times repeating the assigned job to get the piece (I don't have the lotto collection). Gets tricky though when a job requires 100+ energy.

  7. I think it's like the mastery rewards of Cuba Moscow and Bangkok pretty lame! Not worth a minute of my playtime.

Even like the valentine's collection. The only thing you get is that people keep asking you if you got some pieces over and over again... If you looking for a item you're missing 5 tantoo's or other pretty good stuff.

And I mention another thing today, you don't get any reward point's when you level up!

I would say, KEEP up The GOOD work SYNGA!

  8. Just wanted to mention that 48 hour window is for each collection, at least that's how it worked out for me, so I have two separate timers on my collection page. Also, the "assigned job" hasn't always been clearly labeled, sometimes I got the yellow arrow and timer and sometimes not. I'm not going to stress over this. Once I finish all of Bangkok, I'll work on it while I'm waiting for Las Vegas to open up.

  11. It's not quite right what you write:

When you agree to help someone, you needn't to do a random job, there is one special job with a sign like the jobs you had to do for bangkok items in ny. When you do this job the item normally drops after doing it a few times. I had jobs in ny,cb and moskau.

  12. Many times when I have agreed to help on the crew collection it takes me to a bangkok level but no job on that level is "designated" or marked. A few times it has taken me to levels where the specific job was marked. I think what is happening it sometimes the specific job that is marked for crew collection is a job that has been locked by your choice of Yakuza or Triad. If you have completed the level all the way through 4, there is no way to unlock 4 jobs on that level that are hidden. So I think sometimes the crew collection job is one of those. Anybody know if that is true?

  13. The idea of crew collections is stupid...

  14. I agree that this is basically a horseshit feature, but I think I've found a way to get at least a few without any extra effort. I've noticed that the featured job shows up on the last job page I was on in the last city I was in. This sucked when I was fighting in Cuba and clicked a help link, which then sent me to a job I had long ago mastered. But when I was in Bangkok and it sent me to jobs I was still mastering, it was fine, and the collection item was just a bonus while I was doing jobs I would have done anyway. Just make sure you're where you want to be when you click the link

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's true I also have noticed that the featured job shows up on the last page of the last city was in. Now if I could only get it to show up on the 1st page of NY where I could hit it for 2 points a click, I'd be in business.

  16. "Your best bet is to repeat the 1 energy cost job in the Street Thug tier." No, it has to be a job with an orange timer under it. For me it's always been jobs in Bangkok and once that a) I've finished long time ago and b) don't even drop any loot. It took me TWO energy packs yesterday just to help 1 friend find 1 piece... Another ploy from Zynga to get us to buy points so we can spend them on energy refills. Not worth the trouble, IMHO. --Knuckles.

  17. This is off-topic, but...I was working on Chapter 4 of Moscow,(Avtoritet) and I just unlocked the last mission, "Buy off The General's Command Team", which mastered itself, but locked the mission "Forcibly Demote General Osipov". Fortunately, I still gained the Cossack Armored Vest.

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ the people stating it's the last city you're in for the collection job...this isn't always true. I'm working my way through mastery 4 of dragon head and I found what's been said so far to be true except when I just had the help job in chapter 1 left to master and again when all I have had is the faction choice job on chapter 2. In both cases, I was given lootless Cuban jobs to do for the collection job. So, it could be that it just applies to last city you were in when all you have are "normal" jobs left unmastered or if you've mastered everything and then it just picks a nonhelp/nonfaction choice job.

  19. Anyone know if you can get money laundering collection items or the crew collections from mystery bag?

  20. i wish i could get any of this, the chop shop is totally useless to me as i have rackets, it just pisses me off more and more everytime i get any pieces.. its ridiculous

    ReplyDelete
  21. darinweed: This has nothing to do with the chop shop. I have brackets and no properties and I am still able to do the crew collection stuff.

  22. Major Zynga Nerf. If the timer is on a mission and you keep doing the mission, no matter how much time you have left, if you master the mission you lose the timer and DO NOT GET THE ITEM! Just vanishes with mastery, doesn't move, doesn't keep going. Kinda sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Re: the rules of what job the timer picks.

It never picks a "help" job and it never picks a faction choosing job.

It picks a job in the last city you were in at the highest tier available to you that has non-mastered jobs (again, ignoring help and faction jobs).

If you've mastered all available jobs (discounting ones it will never pick) in the last city you were in, it will pick from another city.

So the best strategy for when to click a crew help link, if you still have jobs to master, seems to be in whichever city you have jobs left to master where the highest tier available to you has the lowest average energy amount.

If you have completed all jobs in all cities, the best strategy is to be in NY, where jobs on average have the lowest energy cost.

@Lex: That didn't happen to me. I mastered a job with a timer and the timer stayed there, and I did the job two more times and got the collection item.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Lex - a similar thing happened to me, but the job icon and timer only disappeared when I levelled up. I blew a whole level of energy on a high end Moscow job (which I had already completed and didn't drop any loot) so I'm not going to bother with this crap any more. Epic fail.

    ReplyDelete
  25. the crew collection items are not hard to get, i found a glitch to get the collection faster wat i do is wen i do the job with the timer i click do the job again once at a time and get the item in after clicking twice already collected most of the collection items.

and another cool thing is that the timer doesnt stay on one job so u have to look before u click do job again i was at level 4 of commandant and Ep 5A so the ratio was 2:1 so i keep leveling up regardless and this collection just moves as u r mastering the jobs so i collected alot of items plus the help from friends so i am up to 20 items already.

note that the prototype carjacking collection item the ignition key i have not found yet so it looks like it will be worth alot, i dont know about the other collection yet

    ReplyDelete
  26. i have found 4 ignition keys so far (and not much else in that collection).

  27. Anyone tried putting them on the wishlist and getting for Mystery Bags? Wonder if they'd drop.

  28. I just leveled to 360 and then 361 and did not receive a Godfather point either time.

  29. Just to second a comment above. Clicking on a crew collection link takes me to the Pirate stage of Bangkok but there is no job marked with the crew collection icon. Do zynga even bother to beta test this nonsense?
    Bah.

  30. It turns out for me that it ALWAYS chooses the HIGHEST job on a list of the LAST episode in the city you're in. And it doesn't matter which ep you were last in - it always sets the timer in the last episode you've got. In Bangkok that's 192 energy per final job in ep 5A, which is far too much to get anywhere unless you've just levelled. I'll have to try that 'last city you're in' thing with NY...

    ReplyDelete
  31. me again, turns out, that no matter what I do, I am ALWAYS getting the final job in ep 5B in Bangkok. So much for receiving these items from NY...

  33. i've been doing the crew collection jobs since zynga started them because the system always picks one of the jobs i have to finish. that is bangkok for my primary character and moscow for my secondary. my prob is: i always get the same items. what NEVER dropped so far is: gps signal scrambler, tank of gasoline, ignition device, classified report, guards schedule, schedule of truck route, container key and rocket ammo. i have plenty of everything else ... but the mentioned items are missing. anyone else has the same problem?

    ReplyDelete
  34. @anonymous, 18 march:

I have the same problem. However, once you click on the link to help one of your maffia with the crew collections, you see in the pop-up screen which item you are going to get. I'm going to try to just let the timer run out if it is an item I already have, and see if I can click the help-link again... (I don't know if this is possible yet, so have to try) Anyway, this way, I don't spend waste any energy on items I already have.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Every time I click to help someone find a crew collection item, the icon puts me on a tier that is much too high for me to do anything with, Im on the second tier in Cuba but mw keeps putting the icon on el cacique!! I have never done any jobs on that tier.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It will pick on the highest level that you have access to, doesn't matter whether you haven't done that level. What city you were in doesn't count. It's easiest if you are around level 100 and haven't actually gone to Bangkok or Moscow, as it'll choose jobs from El-Capitan or El-Jefe tier in Cuba or occassionally Underboss.
To finish quickly you'll have to trade for as many items as possible with other ppl.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i stil get send to bangkok pirate tier but there is no count down or anything. i masterd al the jobs and when i accept to help i'm in NY. so why do i still get the same problem?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I ALWAYS get sent to Bangkok Pirate tier too. So frustrating as I can never find the items for my friends and myself. I really wish they would fix this bug!

    ReplyDelete
  39. satellite phones!! why don't they drop in chapter 3 episode 2 anymore!! or its it only me?!?

  40. I've found a guaranteed way(yes, really!) to finish crew collections if you have trustworthy friends.

Not many players seem to have realised that the item MW makes you search for when you accept a friend's crew help request is always one that *YOU* don't have: it has >nothing< to do with if the person asking for the help has got the item already or not.

It can thus take forever finishing a collection as the person asking for help only gets items that the helpers don't have - not what he/she himself might need.

So if you and your friends can gift one complete set to one friend *except* for an item they (and perhaps you) actually need, then when you send them a crew help request for that collection, MW will only ever ask them to find that specific item! Bingo! Repeat this excercise as many times as you like to get the missing items you all need and complete your crew collections.

You've probably worked out why you need trustworthy friends for this - if they don't gift you original collection items back when you've finished, or if they accidentally vault a completed collection without remembering some of those items weren't theirs, you'll have lost all or part of your own collection.

But it does work, I've done it myself. If you've got multiple facebook profiles on the go in order to have multiple MW personas (heaven forbid!) then this is even easier!

    Happy Crew Collecting .
