Las Vegas District 3: The Lower Strip

Sorry for the lack of updates, but there was a lot of good comments going on the last post and I wanted to keep the discussion open as long as possible.

But now, back to the content. In this article, I will be discussing the jobs, loot, and strategies associated with Mafia Wars Las Vegas District 3: The Lower Strip

Jobs

This job tier actually has 3 different paths: fighting, energy, and social. The fighting and energy paths work just like they did in previous chapters. The stamina cost is intense; on the fourth level of mastery, one of the fighting jobs costs 96 stamina and only offers 3% mastery for a win.

You'll need to spend over 3,000 stamina to master the job (and that is assuming you win every fight).

Loot

Pump Shotgun (weapon; 32 attack, 22 defense)

Classic Convertible (armor; 30 attack, 35 defense)

Motorcycle Helmet (armor; 22 attack, 32 defense)

El Escorpion (weapon; 40 attack, 30 defense)

These items drop randomly from any job.

Also, the "Buy some Black-Market Info" job drops the Alarm Code. The Alarm Code is a consumable required to complete the "Do Some Late Night Shopping" job.

"Convince a Restaurateur To Leave Town" job drops a Chef. The Chef is used to upgrade the Restaurant in your Casino.

Boss: Juliana 'Black Widow' Trieste

Wow, killing this boss is an absolute pain! At the Ruby level of mastery, she has 25,000 health and kills most players in 1 hit.

Here is the strategy I used to defeat her on Gold mastery:

- Engaged her in a fight.
- Asked for help.
- Spent all my consumables fighting her.
- Lost and healed up in Las Vegas (spending $V and not leaving the chapter)
- Repeated jobs in the same tier in order to get a few more Stun Guns

When I re-engaged the boss shortly afterwards, I got around 5,000 damage done to her by my Mafia and was able to just finish her off by re-spending my consumables.

It seems there are two key strategies here:

1) The "get help" function is buggy and seems to have potential to do a lot of damage. One of my Mafia members dealt Trieste 4,200 damage!

2) If you do not leave the chapter (as was suggested by an anon poster) and heal in Las Vegas, her HP seems to regenerate much slower.

As a result, you can fight her, use all your consumables, heal in Las Vegas, re-engage her and she will not have regenerated any health.

If you are really desperate to beat her, it seems that the "Get Help" function can be leveraged to deal a lot of damage. What you want to do is find a lot of your Mafia Members who are strong, have them online (will require some coordination), and have them help you out.

If you are having trouble doing this, ask random mafia members using Facebook's built-in chat system.

Now, the key is to make sure all 10 people click it. If they all do it right away and they are all pretty strong players, it's possible to deal 10,000+ damage to her outright. This way, you will have a much easier time beating her.

Additionally, if you save up a lot of $V, you can heal repeatedly in Vegas and fight her over and over again until she dies.

It's a bit tedious, but that is the way it seems to have to work. Here are the rewards:

Trieste's Pistol

Bronze - 85 attack, 58 defense
Silver - 101 attack, 75 defense
Gold - 113 attack, 85 defense
Ruby - 129 attack, 104 defense

---

oh, and a new fighting feature:

For some players (this is in beta and not live for most, yet anyway):

"Martial Law" has been declared and now fights are capped to 50 people. Here are the practical consequences:

1. Maybe one day you will not need to have 500 people in your Mafia to play this game (there is still all the social jobs, robbing, gifting, and other mafia-dependent events)

2. Random job loot is de-vauled, job mastery loot is more valuable. You probably won't use random job drops at all with only 50 people, given all the job mastery loot, specialty items, and rewards from things like spinning the slots.

3. Another nerf to energy accounts who tend to have good items and bad stats.

My impression is that this is something that should have been implemented at release. It makes things more balanced, but it doesn't necessarily make the game feel more meaningful and I am not sure what exactly it accomplishes.

It makes fighting accounts better at fighting (they won anyway), but I feel that there is still not a legitimate progression for fighting. The tournaments are a step in the right direction but need to be fleshed out more and be a lot less random and I think we will be making some good changes.

What do you all think?

  1. Thanks for the tips on the "Black Widow"!

Having an energy account, working hard to get tons of good items I'm annoyed as hell about the martial law. Las Vegas was bad enough, with the fighting jobs taking forever to complete, but now I have to scramble to improve my other stats. Maybe I should have been more balanced in spending points, but a little warning would have been nice.

Even more importantly, newer players like myself are really screwed because we missed out on the uber-items from Paris, England, etc. When it's 1 of 501 weapons that's not a big deal, but when it's 1 of 50 it really hurts not to have those items and having no chance of getting them.

  2. am getting killed by her in 1 hit.. what should i do?

  3. The Black Widow ARRRRGGHHH!! Finally defeated her, but god it was hard, did it by myself and took about 45 minutes!

Just a few comments on the other stuff (as well as the thread below), what on earth are Zynga thinking? I have never seen a game move the goalposts so often, it is very frustrating.

I agree entirely with JC's comments above, all that work collecting stuff and then they suddenly say you only need 50 mafia. I am lucky that with this account I followed your levelling guide to lvl 1000. At that point I decided to branch out (especially as robbing was introduced) and built up stamina and attack points. Thank god i did! Otherwise I would now be in a position of having a useless character who would not even be any good at farming out loot as it was no longer needed.

Similarly I am thankful I managed to complete some of these loot events as I have most of the decent high end loot items.

But, even with all that my account has been well and truely nerfed by all the recent changes. The obvious reason this has been done is to promote the marketplace. It is now possible for the players who buy stuff to make up the 50 high end items from the market place, still stupidly expensive for a timewasting game, but I bet some will do it.

I dont agree with all the recent changes, mainly because it has changed the nature of the game.

Like I said, I've reached where I want to be with this account, but what chance does a new player have of competing? Or of even getting anywhere near a decent level?

With all these recent changes I think the game has been changed far too much.

As somebody mentioned previously, maybe that is what Zynga want, maybe it is more profitable to reduce the number of players, but have a high percentage of those that are left paying regularly to buy stuff in the marketplace?

Who knows, all I know is that they have destroyed what was a fun game for a lot of people. Just becuase I am in the lucky position of having built my character up, I can still appreciate how p*****d off a lot of others will be having lost all means of advancement in the game.

  4. When LV was out as Beta there was a bug for me when doing District 3: After completing the last job (I tored down Juliana before completing all jobs) I got open the next mastery lvl having Juliana already in status "killed"/completed - and lot of the jobs already half complete.
This went each time I completed the lvl such I only had to fight Juliana once in my lifetime :D. The bad side is that somewhen in time the "Triestes Pistol" dissappeard in my loot list, but when seing all these issues in beating her I feel this deal was a good one :)

  5. Not too sure where to post this, but I've found another loot item, which I dont think is on the list. Got it doing jobs in District 5. Animal:

    Tasmanian Devil
    53 Attack 38 Defense

  6. Just to add to the Martial Law change - saw this in Moscow.

BETA! The Russian government has armed all the gangs of Moscow. Gang fighting has become more lethal - increase your attack skill to deal more damage, and increase you defense skill to reduce the damage you take.

They did something to attack strength where its greater than normal there.

Apparently they also have something setup across different cities where 501 mafias drop better HEL when attacked.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Just got another Tasmanian Devil from fighting in Vegas

  8. off topic:

    Weapon: Woodsman: A27 D54
Vehicle: Buzzard Combat Chopper A54 D30
    Armor: Domestic Defense A53 D35
    Animal: Tasmanian Devil A53 D38

So far all I've got 'fighting in NY'.
Seems to be the new FHEL.

  9. anybody else seen that the odd to win tournaments went up? last time my odds in heavyweight regional were 1:2500 (before they were 2:1), went down to 1:1500 in national and ended in 1:375. that were realy easy 1620 xp for 135 used stamina. and I've got 1.5 victory tokens per stamina which makes round about 200 tokens. thats a nice change i my opinion...

    ReplyDelete
  10. Dear Zynga,

Here it is a list of things to do in the near future:

    1. Nerf Bangkok ! (less money required to unlock jobs)
    2. Give the chance to speed the stamina timer up (like golden throne reward in NY)

P.S.: No, I don't want to change my character class :)

  11. Thanks for the tip about beating Juliana. I am leaving her for last so i can use up all my $V on her.
My immediate impression for a cap of 50 for fighting is that it will be good for me. I am constantly being beaten by players having 300+ of the Bkk faction store items and have tried to strengthen my defense by buying the defense stuff from the faction store. It is a very slow process, trying to farm for bahts with the items costing around 500k/piece, so hurrah.

  12. One big problem with this boss fight and asking for help is that losing is very painful to my mafia and they become reluctant to help again. Yes I tried the coordination thing but it is very hard to do. Im still trying. In district 5 there is no help to ask for and the stun only deals about 30 damage. i ran through all my consumables and 6 health regens in Vegas and was simply not doing damage to her when I attacked. When i regened she still had the same damage. Let me know what you find as the key.

    ReplyDelete
  13. don't know, but district 5 boss was no problem for me in the long run. she regenerates very slow, round about 1000hp in 12h or so. and it doesnt matter if you stay in the district or even leave the city... I got her down in the last 36h. I always used the 10 granates first because they do damage to her AND her sidemen. after that I used the stuns dealing around 30 damage to the sidemen. After the sidemen were dead, I alwas had 5 stuns left. I did round about 300 damage to her with one hit (I have 1000 skill points in attack), so I got her down by 2000 hp. After the third attack she finaly was dead...
    good luck...

    ReplyDelete
  14. As above, I got a woodsman weapon. Got it fighting in Vegas

  15. According to Erik, there is a third fighting Beta out there at the moment, now when you attack 501 mafia you get better loot. I haven't really checked it yet.

They are also planning on modifying the damage curve in the Moscow beta. No details at this time.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yeah my tourny probability went up as well, from 2:1 odds or 3:1 odds to prett great odds.

Since the change i've went from 0/5 heavyweight wins to 2/2 heavyweight wins.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Also saw the odds changed on the tournament. Thinking this is a temporary "bug" or "feature". Whatever, I'm going to take advantage of it while I can.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anyone notice that u cant add HEL bankok loot to your wish list anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I got this message "BETA! The Russian government has armed all the gangs of Moscow. Gang fighting has become more lethal - increase your attack skill to deal more damage, and increase you defense skill to reduce the damage you take." while fighting in russia
and this one "BETA! Martial Law has been declared! Larger gatherings are banned, so now you can only bring 50 mafia members to a fight - make sure they have the best items!" in cuba

    ReplyDelete
  20. that's a nice beta in cuba. now you don't have to collect 501 items of the best loot. anyway most fighting accounts have an energy sideaccount to provide the loot. now the sideaccounts are needless...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Looks like the re-nerfed the tournaments into uselessness. It was fun for all 12 hours it lasted.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Now there is some new "community job". has to be done 30 million times before Zynga will release District 6. Current just under 200k. You can only do it once per day. I'm thinking to boycott the job and call their bluff.

    ReplyDelete
  23. the district 6 community job is a dumb (no.. stupid) way to burn through a bit of stamina.

What are they simply not going to unlock the district if nobody does the job?

    yeah right.

    ReplyDelete
  24. community job costs me 93 energy and pays 186 exp. What does it cost you?

    ReplyDelete
  25. ok, las vesgas sucks. i finished the 5th distrint and all four levels and have gone back through trying to load up on loot and its not happening. i have 4k energy range and have gone through 20 refills only got one scorpian, 4 rifles and some goats. got into a fight with some chick and she had like 200 mike buggies and 200 long range rifles (sorry i dont remember their exact names. but how did she get these. whats the deal i cant imagine spending 4000 RP/sto try and get these. any ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Couple of comments on things mentioned.

Yeah, tournaments, back to losing today on heavyweight, ah well, managed to win three world championships yesterday!

I agree with the post above about loot. We cant pick a job to farm items in Vegas and the items come up very infrequently. I tend to be getting casino loot more often. I have over 7k energy and have picked up very few decent items. the only thing I can think of is they are using bots to get 200+ items or a lot of money in the market place!

I have actually found fighting in Vegas is giving better loot than jobs, but still very infrequent.

Listening to the reports about the various fighting Betas above, I am still not convinced it is a good idea, as with other things, you cant just go and change the whole structure of a game!

I dont pay to play, but imagine you are one of these people who spends actual money in the market place. Imagine if you had bought 500 items only to find you only need 50...

    ReplyDelete
  27. I spend a loot of money (reward points) to by some nice things in market place and I buy more than 50 of them!
So, Zynga give me one "deal" at thet time to spend my money, and I did it. Now, they want to change it and I will "lose" my money. Excellent idea for them!
Maybe, I will have more money in few months when I invite Zynga to court of justice?
Another excellent idea?!?!?!?!?! This time for me and not for them! lol

  28. DT says...
I'm an energy player with over 9K energy. When they start with Robbing, I start building my stamina using CS n WD item, now I've 400 stamina and managed to clean up all 5 district in LV, except for the 3 and 5 ruby boss.
With all the exp ratio nerf, I still can level whenever I want (thanks to Mastermind n Wheelman bonuses)in LV by doing district 5 ruby jobs.

As for Fighting n Tournament which require ATT skill, I'm now stop put skill point on energy, n now I have over 500skill point idle. I'm not putting it to ATT (not now) since I'm not sure wether zynga will change the game again n again.

But considering the new FHEL and Martial Law Beta....and also I need to finish 3 n 5 ruby bosses, should I put it all on ATT? Or should I just wait till the Martial Law go live n also District 6 opened to see what zynga finally up to?

    Any suggestion?

  29. off-topic

in the fight club section of the marketplace, the old loot are back (the ones that have >70 attack or defense). they're also at their old prices of only 25 victory tokens, you just have to be at level 21 fight mastery.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Just a addition to the fighting system needing to be worked on. In the tournaments i was 3/1 and opponent was 14/1 and she still won. Totally unbalanced

    ReplyDelete
  31. Re: fight club 70+ loots, you can only buy them once every 7 days!

    ReplyDelete
  32. @DT

I'm in the same boat as you. I just want a sign as to which way they are going. I've got 6500k energy, 650 sta, ~500 att. I've currently got 670 points sitting there waiting to be placed. I'll never catch up defense wise so I haven't wasted a single point there. I hear of people with 2000+ defense still getting iced all the time. But with the 500 att I can already kill 2 out of 3 mafia's @ 501. If I go below 500 it's virtually 100% winning ratio now.

But the way things are going sta with be as useless as energy soon enough.

I'm holding pat until they finish jumping around from chick to chick and settle on one. If in fact they ever do that.

  33. ANATOMY OF A JULIANA TRIESTE BOSS FIGHT RUBY TIER

I first initiated an Attack on Juliana with all 4 items (Health + Shivs + Grenades + Stun Guns) in my Inventory upto the Max 10.

Started by using Stun Gun on Juliana, which showed her dropping health by -700 plus each time and then alternating with my Own Attack, even as Juliana was stunned by the Stun Guns. When my 10 Stun Guns got over, I continued the alternating Attack Procedure with Grenades and finally with Shivs and then just plain Attacked her till my 10 Health Recharges also evaporated. Just before Juliana beat me, I made my Post "Asking for Help". Juliana was at 12,500 health at that time, half of her Full Health of 25,000.

I quickly got Loot Drops from the 10 Energy (at Level 1 Bronze Mastery) ARRANGE A CARTEL SALE JOB and recharged all 10 each of Stun Guns, Grenades & Shivs and managed 7 Health chargers and re-initiated the Juliana Boss Fight. The first thing that came up was a Dialog Box showing that approximately 7-8 people had helped me in my Boss Fight. 3 of those people had beaten down Juliana by dealing 3000,1500 and 1000 to her Health. The Message asked me to "Thank My mafia" and when I clicked on that it took me straight to the Free Gift Section.

I then headed back to the Juliana Boss Fight and re-initiated it and this time there she was with 7000 Health only. Again I repeated the earlier procedure of First using a Stun Gun and then Attacking her alternately. I also ended up using a few Grenades following the same procdedure. This brought her Health down to almost Zero. But, here she played a terrific ace and dealt a severe blow to me which saw my health almost evaporate ! My friggin' Heart was in my Mouth ! However I quickly recharged my Health with 3 Chargers and then Attacked her again......and the rest is history ! ;-)

It seems that Attacking Juliana with Stun Guns first followed immediately by a Direct Attackis very critical. The Stun Guns really deal the most Damage to Juliana coupled with the immediate Direct Attack, because she is stunned and her defences are down. That probably explains why her Health went down -700 in the Dual Attack.

Finally without doubt, your Powerful Mafia must help. I did no co-ordination but my Mafia is Good ! I owe this victory to them !

  36. Asking for help against Juliana is a double-edged sword. I had someone "help", they said they took 600 points off of her. To me, she regenerated 6000 health.

After a week of planning, I took her down for the final time.
    Me: 1400 stamina, 580 attack, 265 health, lvl 1400+

    What I did.

Initial Attack: Threw everything at her - knocked around 4,000 points off of her health.

    Then I repeated the following:
1: Stayed in District 3, did the cheapest job (while I still had energy) up until 60 seconds after my previous health refresh

2: Refresh my health (LV$1,803,325 for 265 points)

3: Attack Juliana - Generally I averaged around 780 points for two attacks while she killed my henchmen, I never survived aloned to used my health packs. I also used any grenades/stun guns/shivs that dropped from jobs.

    ----
After about 25 minutes and 42 million in cash, she was dead. I went into the fight with 74 million on hand - just to be safe.

  37. okay, the put the fight-club online..and what i noticed is that they pretty much killed fighting.

When it comes to getting experience. My return on stamina dropped with almost 0,7, from about 2,4 to 1,7.

The loot dropped also to less then 1% where it used to be about 10%

  39. I finally beat the district 5 boss in ruby!
What I noticed is that if I went to check my loot inventory to verify my consumable count (grenades/stunguns/shivs), she would regenerate more!

You have to count and remember how many of those consumables you've collected! Zynga should let us check our inventory without counting it as "leaving" and giving her a chance to heal. Better yet, display the number of consumables available next to the boss job!

Tell me if that's not a good idea and whether you think it would be hard for Zynga to do.

I have two qn dat hopefully someone can help mi wif..

    1. for the ask help against juliana, can other people besides my own mafia help out ie total strangers (not even added as friends on fb) click on my post? if its possible, does anyone hav an address to a website whereby i can post de link so dat ppl can help me?

    2. i intend to pump up my att n def to 2000 each. will it work to take out the last boss?

    thanks for any suggestions =)

  43. Not sure how much difference it makes but 2000 A+D don't make much loose ~350 health from each Juliana attack. And maybe 700 damage her.

I wonder how long the 50 limit on fighting will last when CC players only need to buy 300 over priced pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I just noticed on my profile I have 60 of each of "gang lieautenant" end "hacker's laptop" and others like this. Anyone knows what this is? I don't remember these items...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Just 1 thing I noticed....in each district there is a job that drops an item that will be needed later in the district....alarm codes, hot tip, etc and an item that is needed to upgrade your casino.....slot machines, chefs, poker tables, etc. If you identify those important jobs at level 1 mastery, you can do those jobs many many times at very low energy costs. This will give you an inventory of these important items and you will not have to worry about having enough of these items later on.

    ReplyDelete
  46. @ anon aug 8, 8:08

those items could be for las vegas district 6...

my question is i just received some bangkok loot (ninja, lamang, etc) and instead of my mafia atk increasing it actually drop, 95000 to 89000.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anon 4:46 - the ATT/DEF scores have been screwy for a couple of months. Mine tend to float between 4 and 20% over what they should be. Last time I checked mine were 3.26% and 4.15% over the calculated values.

What happened a couple of months ago, they started incrementing your score by the full value of a new piece of loot instead of the difference between the new piece of loot and the loot it replaced.

For instance, I picked up a Ruby Red from fighting yesterday and my DEF score went up 52 instead of only 7 (it replaced a Lloyd's Spectre.

At some point (I haven't figured out the logic), some of that bump goes away. When I'm aggressively acquiring new loot, I've seen my bump approach 20%. Now with loot drop rates from both fighting (even against alive 501s) and jobs at historically low levels, My "bump" is about as low as I've seen it.

  49. Totally off topic, but has anybody tried to add Bangkok loot to their wishlist recently? I have tried to gift some items to my mafia and found they couldnt add high end Bangkok loot to their wishlists.

been trawling the mw forums for a definitive answer but htere seems to be some confusion as to whether it is a glitch or a new Zynga rule to stop loot farming.

Anybody any ideas as to where I can find an official announcement on this?

    ReplyDelete
  50. i couldnt add it to my wishlist
i think they wanna stop sidekick energy accounts from farming loot

    ReplyDelete
  51. i guess i was an energy account, but im putting al points in the stamina lately.

because the vegas jobs give me more than 2,0 return on my stamina.

  52. I skipped the bosses on Ruby on level 3. That shit is just ridiculous. They don't want you to have an additional account but then they make this shit impossible unless you can get high level players to help you out. I'm waiting on the nerf.

  55. For Ruby level fight vs Juliana:
    I have 700 Attack, 760 Defense, and 193 Health.
Each time she attacked, my health would always drop to 38, so I was able to use a few health packs to get an extra hit. With my given stats I would lose 155 health per hit every time, while I would dish out around 400.

Using the previously stated strategies regarding staying in District 3, I managed to kill her by visiting the hospital about 10 times.

Another account with only 600 Defense and 155 Health I would always get killed with one hit.

    Hope this helps

  56. stupid POS mafia wars. It wouldn't let my helpers use any items against her. AND, someone else attacked me while I was in the fight. I didn't realize that lowered your health during the fight. OH, and even better, she was regaining health WHILE I was fighting her.

I think I am done w/ this stupid game. At least the last year and a half was free.

  57. To above comment, i engaged Juliana yesterday and she did not regenerate her health. Everytime i got crushed i just travel to NY and heal there and reengage her again. I did the fights myself. Was farming for consummables to fight her but after the 3rd or 4th engagement, consummables were not allowed to be use so just plain attack at her. I think i defeated her at the 5th or th try. Good luck

  58. Off topic again,

So far for me this is by far the best site and discussion forum for info on MW, but i am still a serious and addicted MW player and so like regular updates and players' experiences on current MW goings-on. Can anybody suggest other sites which are helpful for this. Thanks
